Small fields at Aqueduct Satuday

Four major stakes, all looking like FIVE horse fields and pretty chalky... Sigh.. I was looking forward to placing a bet or two Saturday at the Big A, I'm not so sure now. Hopefully the fields will expand a little more than what's projected... but here's what it's looking like:

Bay Shore:
Bill Place, Wollaston Bay, Les Grands Trois, Pass the Punch, Hobbitontherocks (I haven't heard of any others here)

Wood:
Circular Quay, Nobiz Lke Shobiz, Summer Doldrums, Reptilian Smarts, Flashstorm (maybe Sightseeing & No Reply)

Carter:
Keyed Entry, Lantent Heat, Attila's Storm, Silver Wagon, Ah Day (maybe Wild Jam, He Will Shine, Nar, Ryan's for Real)

Excelsior:
Corinthian, Magna Graduate, Happy Hunting, Naughty New Yorker, Accountforthegold (maybe Who What Win)

A lot of times in those DRF articles the writer includes only those he/she feels like they know will run and many times the fields have quite a few more horses. I have no reason to think the Wood won't draw at least seven since the 5th place check is pretty good. The Carter field will be rock solid with those horses pointing to it and the Excelsior should also offer a nice matchup. If all four races have two or three standouts they will be very entertaining and the value is there, you just have to find it.

Summer Doldrums may got to Illinois for a cash infusion and a little lighter "rebound" effort.

I hope so, I hate betting Aqueduct and it is a part of the contest I am in on Saturday, so I can toss those races and not even worry about them.

I guess you haven't been watching much lately... they're all terrible cards.

The Carter looks like a good, interesting race... the rest, not so much.

I'll be there for viewing purposes only...

Yes, but I guess it's asking too much for some full(er) fields when the bigger days come around.

i dont think the carter is intresting, i think its a 2 horse race between keyed entry and latent heat, i think the intresting race is the Excelsior, corinthian and magna graduate are 2 very solid older horses and happy hunting looked very good in his comeback race, i expect huge things out of corinthian this year and i think he wins this race easily though, it is intresting to me though because i want to see how he runs outside of gulfstream.

I'd really hope so, but they don't offer any extra incentive like they do in California except on Belmont Day.

Happy Hunting looked good in his comback race? You mean sitting a perfect trip behind two duelers when the favorite was eased is " looking good "?

He is too slow probably even for a mediocrity like Magna Graduate. Feel free to tell me about any legitimately fast race Happy Hunting has EVER run.

You take those at short prices, have fun.

I'll take my chances on a closing bomb like Ah Day because if those two try to go with Atilla's early they'll get fried at the quarter pole.

He gets beat there to, all washed up

MG is a decent G3 horse. So he couldn't beat the HOTY who returned an won the world's richest horserace. Doesn't make him "nothing." He's a G3 horse, running in a G3 race.

SD was coughing the week of the Gotham. His scope was ugly post race. I saw him after the race (in the barn) and he looked like a wet rag. Since then he's trained well and acted great. I am NOT saying that he's a lock for the Derby (or even the ILL. Derby) but he's a decent colt.

Silver Wagon is also pointing to the Carter and he ran pretty well last time out at Laurel and kind of likes Aqueduct.

A pace duel would really enhance his chances. I suppose he'll need a new rider though as Prado will certainly be on Latent Heat.

Yes, agree. Silver Wagon loves 7F as well. Worth a wager at 4-1 or higher.

Last I heard, David Flores is flying in to ride latent heat and Les Grand Trois for Frankel.

Oh nice then maybe Prado won't be in NY at all. I wondered...especially with Keeneland's power-packed lineup.

Just read that Prado will be at Oaklawn Saturday (a surprise to me, too).
He'll ride Lawyer Ron in the Oaklawn Park Handicap, and assume he'll have a mount in the Apple Blossom, too.
