Why.....?

Why, after a winter of discontent is the Big A opeing the Main Track on Wednesday with a...

$7500 cl at 6f

Shouldn't that have been run on Sat? Please, why not a 7f race at least to start the meet?

They're doing their best to make NY racing irrelevant from November till July.

Remember 5 years ago when they said "We'll never write a race for less than $10k"?

I'm not so much offended by the tag. As I have said all winter, I'd rather have low claimers than all the conditioned (N2L/N3L/NW1Y) junk. The bottom claimers at least know how to win. Wednesday's opener includes winners of 11 races, 7 races, 8 races and 9 races.

My question is why not stretch to 7f and give some of the trainers who's stock really wants the longer route a shot. It's been 4 months of 6f sprints.

Oh I agree about the conditioned junk, I can't stand them at this level. They have a place in lower level racing, where a majority of horses graduate at the maiden claiming level and quite frankly would be overmatched against straight claimers.

I realize PJ Campo has a difficult job with the current stock but man these cards are just terrible. Hopefully Wood day is the official start of spring racing.

First big rain storm and they will probably be back on the Inner. Seems they had problems with the Turf last Nov. too.

I once asked Terry Meyocks about six years ago if he would consider a two week break in racing at the conclusion of the inner track meeting which used to occur in mid March. It made some sense because there wasn't the full contingent of Florida shippers returning yet. Turf racing certainly is out of the question until later in April, and the winter warriors who have been knocking heads the last four months on the inner are just about spent. Meyocks was running the show at that time, and totally agreed with the concept but said that between the state legislators and the local horsemen, he would never get away with a reduction in racing dates.

That being said, can we at least get away from six furlong racing for a while? Your right Linny, between wed and thurs there are nine races carded at 6 panels. At the very least, its time for some variety in that condition book.
