Byron King's Pick, Can't Beat It
I'll tell ya, throw out the FoY and ya got yourself a possible Turf Horse here. Apparently the sandy Calder surface was not this horse's cup of tea as evidenced by the 12/10/05 and 1/1/06 races, now on to Gulfstream Park and this horse comes alive on the turf at Gulfstream. The workouts since then is a real eye catcher for me and something I have learned to use and appreciate -
starting with the 5/18 workout the seperation in days between workouts are as follows - 7, 6, 7, 6, 5 throw in the fact that my boy Eddie Castro is on the top and I got myself a win bet |
I kind of like him myself but I highly doubt he will be anywhere close to the 20-1 morning line. In fact, is it just me, or is the morning line terrible for that race?
Eddie Castro concerns me, as I really don't pay attention to riders, but I can't tell you how many replays of turf races I have watched from Gulfstream lately where I have said to myself " who is the idiot on such and such a horse " and it has turned out to be Castro. The guy looks lost out there....at best. |
I am leaving for the track in a few minutes to place some bets. One of them will be $20 win and $30 place on this horse. I like this horse and the spot.

I like Can't Beat It, too, along with Go Between (if we're talking horses that aren't the betting public favorites). I don't know how the turf at Colonial handles rain but I think the speed horses won't be there at the end... am I wrong about this? I'm trying to picture how the race is going to set up and I just see one of the closers taking it...
