Discreet Cat to miss the Dwyer

There went that.

Too bad.....

DISCREET CAT MISSES DWYER STAKES

Godolphin revealed today that Discreet Cat will miss the Grade Two Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park, USA, on Tuesday, July 4.

Discreet Cat has missed work due to coughing and therefore is behind schedule.

Future race plans have yet to be decided.

"Discreet Cat has missed work due to coughing and therefore is behind schedule."
Pretty funny that a horse can be "behind shedule" when that schedule only calls for him to run once every 6 months.

No kidding... wonder why he's coughing.

I heard that he had a 2 pack of Lucky Strikes a day habit. Picked it up while in Dubai.

LOL. That is a good one!

blackthroatedwind 06-22-2006 01:23 PM

This is sort of old news and I wrote it in another thread a week or so ago.

I'm not sure he was ever REALLY pointing for the race.

I don't think they were honestly ever even considering the race. It is a $150K race with nothing at stake. I think he is going to train right up to the Haskell or Travers.

Dubai, huh? You sure he doesn't smoke Camels?

It was to be a prep race. Remember them? In the good old days, trainers knew it was tough to train a horse up to an optimum performance without a race or two, especially at 2-turn distances. So they put their top runners into lesser races to help them get into racing trim and didn't insist that they win their preps, either.

You are correct Ann. And what I hate is betting on a race where you know that the trainer is just trying to get a race into him before the main goal. I will almost ALWAYS pass that race up.

blackthroatedwind 06-22-2006 04:01 PM

I think everyone is missing the real issue....this is a very unsound horse. Good horse, no doubt, but getting him to races is not going to be easy.

I agree with the idea of using lesser races as preps, who wouldn't, but I don't think that is the issue here.

I think you are right on here. I think they probably are going to see if they can get him ready for the fall but if they can't just retire him.

I doubt you will see that horse in any prep type race. They will run him in a big race or nothing. He is too fragile. I wouldn't be surprised if he never ran again.

His competition can breathe a sigh of relief then because they weren't beating him in that race...

kentuckyrosesinmay 06-22-2006 08:31 PM

Darn, I was really looking forward to seeing this horse run in this spot. Now, I will be thankful if he makes it back to the track!!!

Hickory Hill Hoff 06-22-2006 09:51 PM

I thought he would be the Travers winner this August. Still, he has a lot of talent. My one and only winner on the Travers day card last summer.

DiscreetCat=Monster 06-23-2006 12:42 AM

Shoot if I owned a horse like that I would keep him in a air proof chaimber if I had as much money as the sheiks!!

Sorry. I saw it on the Godolphin site yesterday morning and , as it had just come up, didn't realize it was old news.
