THE biggest horse racing news story in years!!!

the green tortoise is about set to return for his semi annual series of three workouts!

make sure you get your plane tickets far in advance, this might be the last chance we all have of seeing him grace the track with his presence!

i like to call him The Green Donkey or The Green Junkie personally

Think he'll make is debut in the KY derby presented by YUM brands?

POINTGIVEN1985 03-13-2007 04:03 PM

i think this guy just mite be ok, i realize at this point he will never live up to the price but its not the horses fault they payed that much for him. he's in very good hands and i think he could go on to have a solid career

Antitrust32 03-13-2007 04:09 PM

he is a beauty if that means anything... hopefully he runs as well as he looks.. he could add interest in the sport!

Indian Charlie 03-13-2007 04:10 PM

antitrust, my guess is that they would prep him in a stakes race for his debut, that way he might get his graded earnings qualification. with pletcher already committed to starting 12 in the derby, i'm not sure that tgm would be able to get in because of the full field.

pointgiven1985, a solid career at what? at working out?

it would take a miracle for this horse to ever start. actually, i think it would be more of a miracle for this horse to start a second time. i doubt he'll have more than one start in his career, and i'm doubtful he'll even have that many starts (1) to begin with.

Yea the Santa Anita Derby sounds like a good spot to start him. Hes too good for even Grade I races. They need to make a new higher category of racing just for the Donkey. How about Grade ATG (all time greatest). Thats the race they need to start him in, a Grade ATG.

POINTGIVEN1985 03-13-2007 04:22 PM

you guys are unreal, you know nothing about this horse except for the $ THEY paid for him. if he goes on to have a big career and win grade 1's will you guys be on here saying you were wrong ?

Or is it just that you like disagreeing with everything someone says?

no thats not it, but what makes you think that he wont, a few injuries....look at half ours............ you guys are saying that he cant have a good future i am saying that it is very possible that he can, is there a problem with me stating my opinion ?

I actually like Half Ours a lot. Made a nice win bet on him last out. I also wish The Green Donkey all the luck in the world and I hope he wins multiple Grade 1's and Grade ATG's. Doesnt seem very sound though.

Yet, because of the price paid for the Donkey, I love joshing that horse.

yes, for once, your insight is truthful and correct!

The way he breezed down at the Select sale he would fit the Northern Cal Fair unreal. He would be real tough in those 220yrd donkey sprints. Think Pletcher will ride Flip Nollar?

Actually I know him quite well. My Donkey is his cousin. We all spend the holidays together. Nice guy.

So that arguement is useless. I'm going to assume that when bought The Green Monkey for whatever they paid, they were hoping for some stakes wins early so they could stand him for a high amount and try and recoup some of that outrageous fee they paid. I'm guessing that no starts and a handful of works by mid March of his 3 year old year are not what they were thinking when bought. And for an operation that recently retired a freshly turned 3 year old potential star for no other reason that they needed to substitute him because George Washington is shooting blanks. It seems to me that unless Pletcher is 100% positive this horse is ready to run a big race, he'll never see the starting gate. And I'll admit I was wrong if he ever becomes a stakes winner. I have before as I am a man of my word. And you?

I don't think they are too concerned with recouping their "outrageous fee they paid." In fact, I wouldn't put that in the top 50 things they are concerned with.

Danzig 03-13-2007 06:05 PM

what is the ratio of horses vs horses who start? how many of a typical foal crop even makes a race? half, if that?
the odds of this horse making a race, let alone a stakes, let alone WINNING, is slim.
the price paid for a horse in no way indicates what he'll do at a later date. look how many pay out big bucks for a broodmare prospect, look how much a stallion is syndicated for--as if the horse knows, puffs out his or her chest, salutes, and says 'i'll do my best.'
ap indy is the only high priced horse i know of to earn more on the track then he went for at auction.
