1990 Kentucky Derby
 

I have been really jonesing to see the replay of Carl Nafzgar telling Mrs Genter she just won the Kentucky Derby and that he loves her.

I havent been able to find this anywhere on the web (including YouTube). anyone have any ideas or links?

The broadcast, I think it was ABC (at the time), after the race, showed the isolated camera on Nafzger and Mrs. Genter with him calling the race for her.

Call me sentimental or whatever you want, but being in this business for my entire adult life, I felt it was one of those moments that just reached out and moved, touched and insprired you. I think it was one of the great moments in horse racing history. Nick Zito's close up when he was winning the Derby was another one. I also remember the close up on my late friend Giles Brophy getting very emotional when he was winning the Derby. But this one here was different. It was special. I wish we could see that part of the broadcase and I've looked for it as well.

If anyone ever finds it -- yes, please let us all know.

That clip is totally what racing is all about!! I get misty eyed everytime I see it.

I think I played Thirty Six Red. He was a Slew...he died too young, just like the winner Unbridled. :(

That was the first year (I was 9 :o ) that I picked the derby winner. RIP to Unbridled. Heck of a horse he was...

The first race I ever watched as a kid was Easy Goer's Wood Memorial and I was hooked onto horse racing. What an addiction to have! :D

I should mention that I did NOT pick Unbridled for any other reason other than I liked his name. :o

A truly moving race. You don't see many Derby winners come from that far off the pace but Unbridled made his big move at the right time and never stopped.

Also, Unbridled was a complete gentleman. Easily the most classy, professional racehorse I have ever heard of. He would stand in his stall and let Dr. Harthill and Fischer do whatever they needed to do....scope him, etc... he was super confident and proud of who he was and that was echoed in the super classy, confident trainer he had....who also has a Derby prospect this year..what is his name????

Long before my time that I was interested in horse racing...but that was

1. a very nice race by Unbridled
2. a very touching moment for the owner and trainer.
