King's Drama
 

Did anybody see King's Drama pull up there? I hope he's alright, if anyone finds out any info would you please post it.

Just got this off DRF:

Jockey Edgar Prado suddenly eased 9-5 favorite King's Drama, who was chasing the pace, and pulled him to the outside, impeding Einstein.

"He took a couple of bad steps on the backstretch and didn't feel right," said Prado. "Hopefully it's nothing major. It doesn't seem like anything's broken."

KDs pulling up wrecked my day.

He's obviously a horse that has had many issues considering his very infrequent appearances. Hard to blame Edgar for being cautious ( not that anybody was ).

Prado seems to be a very concerned/cautious jockey. I remember being at Monmouth a month or two after Barbaro was injured; he had the favorite in a stakes race on the turf and he got 10-20 yards out of the gate and pulled the horse up.( was a Dynaformer too !) Horse didnot appear injured at all too. Noticed it on a few other occasions too, but he is such an excellent rider and class individual, that I would never question his judgement. Just an observation.

I'd definitely consider that a positive. If something seems wrong with the horse he more than likely isn't going to hit the board anyways even if it doesn't turn out to be an injury. Why destroy the horse trying to get him up for 6th when you can tell he's not right? (That's rhetorical, I didn't think you were saying he should do that)

The only thing is that I wonder why the jock doesnot notice it in the warmup of the horse ? If the horse warms up poorly, why not scratch prerace ? Very few are scratched in this manner. Midrace, also no problem, save the horse and don't take chances, but short of that, unless an obvious sound etc. should have been scratched at the gate to protect both the animal and the public.

Just from what I've observed on track I don't think you can really tell if something is wrong with a horse until it runs full speed. Virtually every late scratch I've seen has occured after the jockey sensed something, started warming the horse up at full speed and could then tell something was wrong. If the horse doesn't give the jock enough of an indication that something is wrong so that the jock runs him hard while warming up then I don't think he can know until he is in the race. And you don't want the jock tiring the horse out pre-race by running him all out so there really has to seem to be something wrong to give that a try.

I just remembered something, didn't Kings Drama break through the gate yesterday before the start?

H. Muniz Jr. Memorial Handicap (G2) on Saturday, suffered an apparent
knee injury.
The seven-year-old gelding, trained by Bobby Frankel for owner
Gary Tanaka, was the 9-to-10 favorite in the 11⁄8-mile turf race.
“He’s okay,” Frankel said. “He’s not in any life-threatening situation
or anything like that.”
King’s Drama has won ten of 31 career starts and earned $1,157,916.

Well that is good news. I didnt think it looked life threatening but you never know. But with all the breaks in his running line, it is obvious that he has physical problems. But boy he is a nice horse.
