Who Doctor Who
I have just seen in the new TB Times that this wonderful old Nebraska-bred has been put down Feb 22 due to laminitis at the age of 24. Won 33 of 64 lifetime and was the King of Ak-Sar-Ben, where he scored 21 of his 26 stakes wins. RIP, old man.

He was a legend at Canterbury Downs (what it's previous name was when they first opened) in Minnesota in the mid-to-late 1980s.
I remember him having a match race against another horse who's name escapes me, but he was a serious fan favorite during that time. |

RIP Who Doctor Who. |
Who Doctor Who raced at Canterbry six times in his career. One of those races was one of the best I have ever seen an person. He shipped in for a stakes race in 1988 called the Chaucer Cup run at 6 1/2 furlongs. At that time, it was one of the biggest stakes races of the meet. He ran a great race, but was beaten a nose that day by a horse named Don's Irish Melody who was trained by John Sadler and had shipped in from Hollywood Park. They covered the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:14 flat which still stands as the track record. I'm a railbird and was around the 1/16th poll and remember the crowd going wild as they drove down the stretch. I will never forget it.
