Pedigree of Great Hunter ...very very nice

This colts pedigree is just crying out for distance. The farther the better. Perfect Belmont stlye... Was very impressive against a suspect field but won like he should of. Don't think we have seen the last of the "Hunter".

his 8 lines of La Troienne is impressive

eajinabi 03-04-2007 09:44 PM

I think every thoroubred ever born has been begging for more distance.

POINTGIVEN1985 03-05-2007 08:56 AM

mike veitch did a pedigree profile on him, and he was very impressed with it, he gave him one of the highest scores he's ever given any horse, and he's been doing it for 15 years, so that says alot about this guys pedigree

His dam (Zenith) could run and run and run.

Cajungator26 03-05-2007 09:35 AM

RAN in the dam's sire line, though.

Does Barbaro mean anything to you?

POINTGIVEN1985 03-05-2007 11:16 AM

this horse has one of the best distance pedigree of any horse in this crop, and he has already proven he can win at 1 1/16, which can be considered short, very talented horse

Obviously Barbaro had the RAN curse... I was just commenting that the RAN curse is ONE angle to look at for a derby contender. I certainly did NOT toss Barbaro last year because of it. He had way too many other good things going for him.

POINTGIVEN1985 03-05-2007 11:26 AM

what is the ran curse ?

The RAN curse is when a horse has Raise A Native in the dam's sire line. It's ok to have RAN in the sire's sire line, but NOT the dam's. The curse was broken last year when Barbaro won the derby... it's just a dumb angle that seems to be correct most of the time (probably coincidence.)

I should also mention that this only applies to the Kentucky Derby.

Great Hunter's sire Aptitude was a very talented distance runner on the track. Frankel did not get it right with him until Aptitude was older.

Please let's not go through this again this year. It is dead after last year, and really never was on solid foundation to begin with. Now that the coincidental trend has been broken, expect several more.

The Fappiano line of Mr Prospector is probably the soundest of the Mr Prospectors.
