Les Grand Trois back this weekend?

Worked another 6F in 1:12 and change again yesterday and seems ready for his comeback.
I saw he was nominated for the bob lewis stakes this weekend, and wasn't surprised being that it might be difficult to fill a race for his condition, and/or Frankel isn't afraid to bring a horse back off a long layoff in an ambitious spot.

With that being said, here's what the Gulfstream website mentioned today.

"Frankel may also be involved in Saturday's $150,000 Hutcheson Stakes (G2) at 7 ˝ furlongs with Live Oak Plantation's Les Grands Trois. The 3-year-old son of Officer won his only race last July at Belmont Park by nine lengths, but was sidelined until recently.

“We had to take a chip out of his ankle after his win,” said Frankel. “He's back and he's ready to run, but he's in California and we'd have to work out some things to get him here.”

Frankel? He is odds on to scratch if he bothers to enter.

I forgot it was Frankel. Oh well.
Just for the hell of it, watch that replay of his debut again- 2nd race at Belmont, 7/20.

Steve..
I know you're friendly with the Live Oak people.
Judging by his works, it looks like he's ready to roll...

Have you heard good things?

Been watching this bad boy for a while. With the lightly raced weak 3 year old division it's any horse's game this year.

Other than a strong performance by Rags to Riches (Ravel too) we haven't seen much. And it's nearly March.

This is the horse that could explode on the scene and win his way into the gate as the posible favorite. Would Frankle put him in if he wins whhat looks like only2 more races.

While I agree with you. This is not the accepted approach. Dosent this horse, with outstanding performances, that can move up dramaticly. With all the more seasoned horses showing holes in thre resume. Isnt this the type of horse that can remove some of the age old angles?

I read somewhere last fall that people close to this horse said he potentially had "Ghostzapper-like" ability. I chalk that up to the Frankel connection more than anything (and if anyone wonders, I believe he's sired by officer, not awesome again).

Regardless, the future book at wynn had him drop from around 60-1 to 30-1 over the past two weeks, meaning there must be some buzz around him.

I suppose he could be the kind of horse you are talking about, but I guess the same could have been said about Pletcher's Soaring By before he made his first start this year and he lost. I loved Les Grand Trois' debut and think he can be a very, very good horse this year. But I highly doubt he will even have tried 2 turns by the time May 5th rolls around.

I agree with you. Im not ready to put my money on him yet.

Not entered at SA for Saturday. . . Will he be shipping to GP?

no news yet, which probably means no.
Curin had a tough time finding a flight for Stormello, and unless Frankel had Les Grand Trois hop aboard the same flight, he'll probably stay in California another week.

By sheer coincidence I have his Maiden score on my Tivo from July 20th. Man was he impressive in that race. Pink Viper closed well in that race and just missed second, obviously there was no way either were going to get to the winner.

I too am now excited about seeing this horse run back.

lemoncrush 02-28-2007 08:31 PM

I'm sure he would have stayed in California if the Robert Lewis wasn't 2 turns. If they don't go to the Hutch, I have no idea what they'll do. Judging by his works, he's ready to roll. It's just a matter of finding a race for him.
Maybe a 7F allowance1X for 3-yo will fill at santa anita soon, but it's clear they have more ambitious goals than that.
