regret stakes

why is the regret stakes run on grass? wasn't regret a dirt horse?

Hoisttheflag 06-20-2006 08:15 PM

There are only so many races, that is why it is a grass race. Regret was a dirt horse and she actually won the KY Derby and was Horse of the Year.

often races that are named for horses are on a surface or at a distance that the horse never tried. as hoisttheflag says there are only so many races.

i knew she had won the derby, that is why i was confused about why it was on the turf...thanks for you info.

Someone still has to explain to me why the Man o'War is run on the turf.......and why there is no big stakes race named for Seattle Slew... There's just no rhyme or reason to these things.
