Slewdledo

I plead ignorant but have never heard of this sire until today. His offspring are reported to win at 17.9% first out which obviously is outstanding. Not a small sample either (463). Question is why does he stand for only 4K??? Any insights???

By the way I'm in the Mood in SA's 8th today was the reason for the discovery

Not sure of the breeding industry side of why he stands for that, but he stood in Washington State, and I'm not sure there's a ton of anything up there. It looks like his progeny list has some pretty accomplished runners (nothing extraordinary, but still good useful horses).

I had never heard of him until I moved to Portland, his offspring are all over on the Portland Meadows/Emerald Downs circuit.

Some of them aren't too bad, relative to the tracks they're running at.

He did give us Slewicide Cruise who I saw a few times. Horse may be running in the NW, but he can toss a sizzling 3/4 from time to time.

Isn't he dead?

If any of his offspring raced at tracks above Emerald or Portland Meadows he'd likely have 0% winners first time out. Win % are the most overvalued stat in horseracing. Everything is relative to each situation. If I took my stable to Emerald and Portland Meadows we'd probably win like 40% (and lose our ass because of the purse structure). I would not be a better trainer. I would just have better horses than most on my curcuit. Same thing with sires. A big time producer in a regional state would most likely be an also ran if moved to KY. There are always horses that make it from meager beginings (Saint Ballado, Dynaformer, Storm Cat) but most sires fail.

I imagine it would be even higher at Portland Meadows (though you'd still get killed because of the purses). There is a HUGE disparity even between those two tracks and most of the horses who run at PM from the Emerald meet are only maidens and horses entered in N1Y races at Emerald. A $6,250 or $8K claimer at PM can't hack it usually with $4K claimers at Emerald.

You'd be trainer of the year.....

In Oregon.

Like being the "worlds tallest midget"

Speaking of midgets...Joe Crispin seems to win all of the races at PM

That's like Native Slew out in WV. I swear, everytime I hit CT, there's a Native Slew horse running in just about every race.

Not sure what got into him this meet. Juan Guittierriez was so in control of jockey standings there the last few years. Now Crispin can't lose. It's strange, he never did a damn thing for me when I lived out there.

Three sons of Seattle Slew died in California last year: Slewdledo, Corslew, and General Meeting. RIP beautiful boys.

Thanks Chuck lesson learned. Though he did look good for about 4f. LOL
