Monmouth Park or Delaware Park?

Hello DT’ers,
Live in Boston and want to visit Monmouth Park or Delaware Park.
What are the pro’s / con’s of each? Which one has the better simulcasting area?
Now that sports betting is here, want to gamble on horses all day with a few baseball bets.
Thank you in advance
Rick

Never been to Delaware but Monmouth is a nice day if you get good weather. Shore breeze needed as only some areas have AC.:)

I'd take 2 trips and hit both. DEL closed for racing on Sun (simulcast and sports betting, casino open). Both are wonderful venues. Worth a trip to either or both. Take a pass on Parx.

Rick,
I was in Philly last week for work. Took 1/2 day off on Friday to drive to Delaware Park. I had been there once before and the track and paddock are really nice.

The words I would use to describe the Sports betting operation there now is Rinky Dink.

They have 1 hidden sign that says Sports wagering on 3rd floor. Went up there a wall of TVs, but the ball room looks like only about 20 tables that's it. They had 2 tellers open, line wasn't moving at 2 in the afternoon.

They had sheets out with opening week NFL games, NFL season wins, NCAA odds to win championship and daily baseball.

No sheet for College Footballl opening weekend or conference championship odds.

The 1 good thing was about 6 self serve kiosks on 1st floor for sports betting. THis had opening week College football games. No totals for games posted or available.

I'll be back sometime in late July to bet opening weekend games and some more NCAA championship futures.

Hopefully they have some good plans for upgrading.

Have to look at hotels etc, to compare whether Delaware or Monmouth will be better for occasional weekend trip down to bet football.

They also rushed to open and I'm sure neither DEL or MON are where they want to be. I know where you were and that is usually eating, drinking, racing. Have a feeling all of this will be sorted out by football season. Another thing I'm not sure of is whether you can still bet in bars in Del. They had a bunch of bars where they sold the parlay cards. Will try to find out.

Answer is no. They limited it to DEL Park, Harlington and Dover. But would not be surprised if that changed.

Thank you everyone!
I’ll post after my visit.

I love Delaware Park.

Also like Monmouth though I haven't been there for a few years.

Both are not too far for me when I have the time.

Hold it Joe.. Monmouth is 100% 'where they want to be'. I was there Thursday. They built the William Hill Sports Book years in advance. I posted pictures. It's no different than any Sports Book room in Vegas.

Delaware is a lovely track with the nicest paddock in the entire sport. It's great for race day.

Monmouth is a larger, more gracious version of Tampa Bay Downs. Quaint and elegant. It's a treasure. Spend the early part of the day at the beach and the rest of the day at the track. Go for a shore dinner. I can give you 30 fabulous places. Monmouth is a weekend excursion. A vacation trip. The Sports Book only elevates the whole experience.

Delaware Park track kitchen on the backside was wonderful when we ran there.

I agree with Steve, I like Delaware... I love Monmouth.

Sportsbook only makes it next level.

Although I was brought up at Delaware Park, Monmouth is nicer and better racing. You can smell the salt air, feel the ocean breeze. It's a really nice place. I would recommend both to any. Delaware has the great Grove. The wonderful paddock.

I was at Monmouth all day yesterday. While I like Delaware Park, Monmouth is thee adult playground now.

saratogadew 06-24-2018 07:56 AM

And speaking of sports/horse wagering crossover, I saw 4 guys wearing soccer jerseys rooting home their horse down the stretch. Probably came to watch their soccer team, then started betting the races after the game.

Thank you again everyone!
It’s great for me to read how passionate everyone is!
Right now I’ll be st Saratoga on 7/21. Since I work for an airline,
I’ll go to Monmouth 1’st, since we fly from Boston to Newark nonstop👏💰🐎

Although this Sat is the Delaware Oaks. Been real hot here, real hot. Not sure it will be a great day at track, but it should be better than it has been.

Del Hdcp is next week and Elate is running.

jnunan4759 08-09-2018 08:36 PM

OK, agreed Steve. I love both places, but get to DEL more often as I get older. Both are great destinations and worth a trip for any horseplayer or fan.

They are both gems of racing and should be embraced by fans and encourage all to go there and experience it first hand. Tampa Bay and Oaklawn should be included too. Could go wider with others, because there is great racing in the US at great venues that are really trying to present a good product and good experience. Would love to get to KY Downs and looking forward to racing in VA. Would love to get to Ellis. So many places to go. PID is also very nice.

Lot's of nice places to go. Lots of good racing. I think racing is getting bigger and better. I've got like 10 millenials I know interested and betting it.

Good Stuff.
