New Zealand Racing, 2015-16

New thread - it's the first day of the new season!

And it's got off to a nice start, with a good win by The Czar in the first 3yo race down at Riccarton today. He didn't seem to know what he was doing, but he was too good anyway.

Maybe a 2000 Guineas horse?

Trainer Mike Breslin - "It would be nice to be back here in November." :D

_ed_ 07-31-2015 07:30 PM

Ooh, and very nice from Amarula at Ruakaka. Three in a row for him now. Close relative to Sir Slick, Little Wonder and Puccini.

_ed_ 07-31-2015 10:43 PM

Timy Tyler wins the Winter Cup at 47-1!

I did not expect that at all, but it's a huge win for the little guys which is always great to see.

Fantastic performances from Weissmuller, Scapolo and Rising Romance's little brother Romelo earlier in the card.

Have not yet seen any replays... just looked over results and then read your piece on the AMAZING Jacob Lowry and will watch all of them later but whoa... the stuff of dreams. Happy that my girl was 2nd but really... what a fantastic upset. Cannot wait to watch ALL replays.

Again, happy birthday to all horses today and happy new thread! :D :tro:

Did not realize that and boy do I love him now. :D Why on earth did I not know or remember that about Little Wonder?!

Scapalo... haha "he got out and went BANG!" THAT WAS NUTS!

Overjoyed watching Weissmuller win!

Oh Illuminati... what can I say... such heart and I mean have you ever seen one try sooo hard? Beautiful for the connections and it's all thrilling but oh... if it weren't so completely sensational that one would have hurt.

Nicely done, Timy. :)

Fantastic racing!

my miss storm cat 08-02-2015 03:28 PM

Cannot wait till the videos of the Ruakaka trials are up!!!

_ed_ 08-02-2015 09:40 PM

They're on Youtube already. :)

Exciting to see so many of them together (and also reading the Vespa and Graphic updates).

I really think so, yeah. It was such a shame that he couldn't race again as a 3yo after his amazing win in the 2000 Guineas in November. It would be good to see him make up for it as an older horse.

my miss storm cat 08-04-2015 10:28 AM

Ed are the Te Teko trials on youtube as well (?) cause you know I am just dying to see both Soriano and Tomorrowland!

Do you get to go to the awards next Thursday night? Sorry if that sounds idiotic.. no how far Hamilton is from you!

_ed_ 08-04-2015 03:29 PM

No sign of those trials yet, but I'll keep checking.

I've been invited to go to the awards - it's about 80 miles from Auckland to Hamilton. I just haven't totally decided either way yet. I'd need to hire a fancy dinner suit! And with fuel and maybe accommodation too it ends up being a bit expensive. But it might be worth it.

_ed_ 08-04-2015 08:44 PM

Te Teko trials are up on the NZ Racing site now.

IF you go please do post about it!

I've decided I will go. :) But I'll drive back home the same night to save a bit of money.

Thrilled to hear it! :)

Have only watched ONE replay and have only TWO words...

John Gray!

That was great!

_ed_ 08-08-2015 08:44 PM

Wasn't he fantastic? What a great race by the old man.

_ed_ 08-11-2015 06:25 PM

The Foxbridge has been upgraded to G2 this year, and with the field on Saturday it's easy to see why! I can't wait.

Absolutely sensational field!!!!! It reads like a long list of favorites!

This was a hard story to write: http://www.theinformant.co.nz/racing...for-the-season

:(
I wish them all the best for next year.

Damn! I was not expecting that and came close to having my eyes tear up but yeah... they sound like wonderful people and good for them giving him a lot of time and he will be back so I guess we just remind ourselves that it could be so much worse, huh?

Very well written, ed and yes I wish them all the best as well.

Have a great time at the awards!

That is a hell of a category that he's in. 5 way tie between Iamishwara, Soriano, Puccini, Sakhee’s Soldier and Silent Achiever? :D

Feel better, good boy. :)

my miss storm cat 08-13-2015 08:35 AM

Congrats to Soriano and her people (and, of course, everyone else! :D ) !!!!!

How exciting was it, ed?

Cannot imagine how amazing it must have been and I am so glad you went! I think you would have regretted it if you had not gone and regret SUCKS.

Thanks cause I had not seen the voting and this especially was really interesting... I would have thought it was literally backwards. Shows how much I know! :D

my miss storm cat 08-14-2015 03:46 PM

Off topic but whatever... :D

I like most of the 40 flag designs but some of the rejects were really funny!

Thoughts? Is it strange changing the flag or is it about time?

_ed_ 08-14-2015 10:56 PM

The biggest jumping races are in August/September - Amanood Lad has only had one start in 2015, but he won the big ones last year. :)

I've always been opposed to changing the flag, simply because of how much money the whole process is costing. I feel like that could be used on other things. But I have to say a lot of those designs are really nice.

_ed_ 08-14-2015 10:57 PM

Addictive Habit! That was stunning.

my miss storm cat 08-15-2015 09:32 AM

Interesting and thanks for the answer.

Wow Addictive Habit was fantastic and so were most of the rest of the field!

That was amazing and I feel like it'll take me forever to catch my breath. :D

Love Pump Up the Volume so very much but how wonderful for Little Alfie Brown! 11 year olds rule haha!

While I do read The Informant on a daily basis I have to include this link to another, inferior place :D, just because.

Good luck to Habibi today at Woodbine.

Oh my gosh, she won?!

I'm confused by the noms for the 6th at Pukekura Raceway on Saturday. Is that a match race or a mistake or am I hallucinating?

_ed_ 08-17-2015 09:07 PM

That's a bit of a weird one. It's a consolation for the main race on the card, the Interprovincial. So it will fill up with the horses that miss out on the field for that race.

Oh okay got it and thanks!

As an aside, Good Lord he is pretty! :D

Some fun trials at Taupo and, while they were only trials, it sure was nice to see Graphic looking so good. :)

_ed_ 08-25-2015 09:19 PM

Amazing fields for Hastings on Saturday. A wonderful group in the Makfi, and I think the 3yo field is an outstanding line-up as well.

Hasselhoof's making his highly anticipated third start up at Ruakaka too.

Just saw the field for the Makfi.... absolutely incredible!

Nice races all around on Saturday.

_ed_ 08-28-2015 06:43 PM

The weather is fine at both venues, and the tracks are really good for this time of year. Should be a great day!

I'm covering Ruakaka from home today, but I'll be watching all the Hastings action closely too.

_ed_ 08-28-2015 07:34 PM

VERY nice 3yo wins by Scrutinize and Coolmore's Love Triangle at Ruakaka so far.

_ed_ 08-28-2015 08:23 PM

Jeez, hugely impressive win by Serious Satire (More Than Ready-Zarzuela). That's an exciting 3yo filly.

_ed_ 08-28-2015 09:09 PM

The Bold One back to his best. :) Four out of eight in his career now.

_ed_ 08-28-2015 09:36 PM

Abidewithme wins in Melbourne!

And, whoa, another very impressive 3yo performance by Sofia Rosa.
