This isn't only because I've been on him from early on, but i was impressed with Tacticus. Solid number off the layoff. Nice improvement.

RHT2004 03-09-2019 10:31 PM

Vino Rosso was also impressive. Andy talked about it on the fox show, but he was sharp with new found speed. If he moves forward off this he can win the Met mile.

Needed 60 days to reappear on worktab after debut. 4 months away from races after just 2 starts.

Hard ridden from the far turn onwards--despite a blistering pace--to beat a field essentially made up of sprinters and a couple of big barn second stringers while shifting/lugging out in the final stages.

Sired by Tapit.

Reads like the profile of the winner of the next Belmont Stakes, funny enough.

A lot to fool people in the Derby preps yesterday.

If you didn't like him, you would point out his unbelievably great trip.

I'm predisposed to like him too, and it was only his third start, but let's be realistic...he was VERY fortunate to win yesterday.

I would like to see his Trakus #'s as well (as compared to Win Win Win). Also, first time Lasix, which seemed to work out well.

I think if you trade their trips, they trade where they finished.

I think he's a sprinter and wont finish up going long. I said that before the race as well.

After listening to Mark Casse talk about Sir Winston, I watched the TB Derby a couple times again. Man, that horse is flying at the end.

Yes, because the pace was fast and the race was collapsing.

Thoroughbred Fan 03-13-2019 08:20 PM

:tro: Totally crazy pace for that track.

Sure. But Tacitus and Win Win Win were both off the pace a bit and Sir Winston closed 4-5 lengths on them down the stretch.

In a meltdown, being farther back is often better.

True. I’m not trying to say Sir Winston is a Derby contender, just making a note of it. There will be races similar to the Tampa Bay Derby where it might make sense to include him.

Meltdowns are fairly infrequent.

I’ll take your word for it — but doesn’t it seem like they’ve been happening in a lot of the prep races?

It does but that will likely change.
