Probably not the case, but I'm sure the owners/trainers thought there HAD to be a better opportunity to earn Derby points than go up against this salty bunch.

Maybe so. Lookin at Lee is the horse from the 'probables' list that wasn't entered. With just 12 points, its options are limited. The Wood looks a lot softer than the Blue Grass.

This is more of a reminder for myself, but small fields in the final prep didn't stop Thunder Gulch, Real Quiet, Monarchos, or Street Sense.

Bit of a paceless race. After the failed experiments at Tampa, I presume Wild Shot will revert to his 2yo efforts and attempt to wire the field.

Does this new dirt track play like the Keeneland of old? Remember Wild Syn?

I always think of Sinister Minister on that speed favoring track 22.4 / 45.4 and won by a pole

I touted him that day at 8 or 9 to 1 and watched the race from a bar in the shopping center where I used to work. No kidding, after that, at least one guy from that bar came into the supermarket every other day and sought me out for a 'tip' on the horses. Showed a handful of old men with gin blossoms on their noses what the chubby stock boy is capable of at times.

Learned a valuable lesson that day, keep the yap shut!

Here's another redboard for ya, Alabama Shakes.

In my opinion it plays pretty fair certainly not the speedway of old.

I used to like the old good rail. Box 1-2-3 and cash. Much tougher sledding these days.

In the Toyota Bluegrass

I like 1-5-6. Chalk players should be ok in the blue grass

Do we know why Paid Up Subscriber changed barns to Chad Brown? Couldn't find anything anywhere.

Lookin At Lee is now listed as an Arkansas Derby probable.

Pace or no pace = pace

When I first looked at the race, I agreed with many of you on this board. I thought no speed at all gives WILD SHOT the best chance to go gate to wire.

Then I looked at my pace figures again and I realized this, I looked at my pace numbers and I honestly think the actual horse that ends up on the front if he wants it is J BOYS ECHO. He actually had the fastest early pace of any horse in the Delta Downs Jackpot even though he never made the lead. And his figures in the Gotham would also get him to the front again over WILD SHOT. Unless WILD SHOT returns his maiden victory or what he did in the Breeders' Futurity, he will not easily make the lead. If Lanerie hustles him out to overtake J BOYS ECHO and then he ends up on the lead, oh well, but in that case it is just going to set it up for the three closers.

I actually am going to play this race three ways and I will cash if it goes any of these directions.

3 over 1,4,6,7 (In this scenario, #3 goes gate to wire with the closers rallying up to pass WILD SHOT and IRAP who will tire from chasing the pace.)

4 over 1,3,6,7 (In this scenario, TAPWRIT gets the jump on the deep closer, catches the best pace setter, J BOYS ECHO, and the other closers rally up to finish ITM with J BOYS ECHO

1,4,6,7 (In this secnario, the pace scenario between the 3,5,6 completely falls apart and the closers take over.)
