Stevens recently said Beholder is the best filly/mare he's ever ridden, and might be the best horse he's ever ridden.

He's been on a lot of bests.

He said that about the big Rock also.

I think he said that about the mechanical horse outside the grocery store as well.

It will likely be a match race, but I'm really excited for the Vanity Stakes!

Santa Anita: Beholder has fever, will miss Saturday's Vanity

Beholder, the two-time champion, will be withdrawn from Saturday's $300,000 Vanity Stakes because of a 102-degree temperature, trainer Richard Mandella said on Thursday morning.

Beholder was expected to be a solid favorite in the Grade1 Vanity. Mandella said that blood tests taken on Thursday showed an elevated white blood cell count, and the Beholder will be treated with antibiotics.

"She's out," he said. "She's fighting something."

Mandella said that if Beholder recovers rapidly she could resume training within a week.

The absence of Beholder will leave the Vanity with four starters - Warren's Veneda, Gas Total, My Sweet Addiction and Legacy.

Bal A Bali was a longshot to ever be in this race, interesting horse.

After what happened last year it makes me nervous to hear this. I know horses get sick and it could just be a minor blip, but maybe it's the same thing she faced before and just hasn't advanced as far. I know she is in excellent hands so fingers crossed the situation is unrelated.

So Tiznow got the Vanity and the Laz Barrera winners. Nice weekend for WinStar even if they didn't have American Pharoah to cheer for coming up in the Preakness. Congrats to them. Congrats to Mike Smith come to think of it.
