I was surprised to read that if Jackie’s Warrior wins this, he’ll be the first to win a grade one at Saratoga in three straight years.

Even more surprised that, according to the article, only Heavenly Prize and Ginger Punch have even won three grade ones here in the graded stakes era.

Really we are talking about only a 20-year stretch that it was even possible for a horse to win 3 Grade 1s at Saratoga (there aren't that many Grade 1s w/in any single division in a relatively short meet); to compound the difficulty, in the past 20 years how many top quality horses have even stayed in training for 3 consecutive campaigns?

Pomeroy won the King's Bishop, Vanderbilt, and Forego; but the Vanderbilt was a Grade 2 at the time. It's only been a Grade 1 for the last 10 years. Lemon Drop Kid won the Travers, Whitney, and Woodward; but the Woodward was run at Belmont that year. The Woodward was only run at Saratoga for a 15 year stretch.

Mind Control is a possibility if he runs in the Forego.

To your point, the list of horses who have won grade 1's in three consecutive years anywhere has to be very short in this era.

Ok. I had thought they started grading the races in the early 70s so I thought it was a longer period.

Gunite might be the next Pomeroy.

In the stallion shed? Let's hope not. This barn is running too hot for my palate, and I am not talking about JW, who would beat that bunch with or without the superior form the barn is experiencing.
