Favorite Track announcer besides

Durkin or Trevor Denman.

Mine is Larry Collmus

Gauchos0522 02-15-2007 03:43 PM

Johnny Dooley

mark2061mn 02-15-2007 03:47 PM

bill gahr!

the only announcer better than tom dorkin!

pmayjr 02-15-2007 04:12 PM

If you guys like a little excitement like Durkin brings, you should listen to Paul Allen, the Canterbury/Minnesota Vikings radio announcer. His horse calls are accurate and full of ecitment.

And when the Arizona Cardinals knocked the Minnesota Vikings out of the Playoffs at the end of the 2003 regualr season on a last-second TD, you heard this famous call:
This is the season right here. Mccown. Shotgun. Rolls Right. Throws to the back of the end zone... Caught! TOUCH DOWN! NOOOO! NOOOO! And the Arizona Cardinals have just knocked the Minnesota Vikings out of the playoffs!

brianwspencer 02-15-2007 04:20 PM

John G. Dooley, hands down. Like him more the the other two anyway. He's my favorite day-in day-out.

ArlJim78 02-15-2007 04:27 PM

A guy that I really like more and more is Luke Kruytbosch. He seems accurate and gives the race an exciting feel, especially in the stretch when they are "set down for the drive!"

On a side note, I saw him on TVG yesterday, first time I had ever seen him. Boy did I have him figured wrong. I had him figured as an old-timer. He and Vic Stauffer just looked like two dudes you might see every day at the otb holding a beer and a DRF and talking horses.

Gander 02-15-2007 04:31 PM

Nobody calls "D Money" better than Durkin. I like Imbriale too, but he just doesnt realize the impact D Money has on North American racing. His enthusiam has been better than ever but he is still very melancholy.
I heard Imbriale posts on here now, is this true?

Coach Pants 02-15-2007 04:41 PM

Luke Krautbush

tiznowthegreat 02-15-2007 04:45 PM

Definitely Mike Battaglia

Just kidding

Another vote for John G. Dooley. One of his best lines, when they make the final turn: "No torn tickets yet"

scrimshaw 02-15-2007 04:55 PM

Luuuuuuke

Kruytbosch. Makes me wanna bet Turf Paradise.

I for some reason, always love when he is talking about closers and gets that excited sound in his voice and says "AND ________ IS BEING PRODUCED DOWN THE CENTER OF THE COURSE!"

ceejay 02-15-2007 05:24 PM

Kruytbosch and Dooley

I actually enjoyed a few of Stauffer's big race calls---however, he can be unbearably annoying sometimes.

For example, loudly proclaiming that Azeri has "the speed of Ruffian, the class of Lady's Secret, and the heart of Personal Ensign!" while she was beating Tropical Blossom by two lengths----that was a little over the top if you ask me.

George "let's bring it on!" Simon.

scrimshaw 02-15-2007 05:51 PM

If this thread were about what track announcer do you not like the most I would emphatically say Tony Calo. If he's calling races, I just turn it off. Seriously, "Sport of Kings" and Tony Calo cannot be mentioned in the same sentence. :p

Paul Allen has got to be the absolute WORST Track announcer in the history of racing. Most,if not all of the regulars I know at CBY cannot stand him and wish he would get canned.

The migraine headache of track announcers is Richard Grunder at Tampa.
I'd rather scratch my nails down a chalkboard than hear him get excited.

I love it when he says that such and such a horse is "carrying the familiar colors of" and than proceeds to say the name of an owner or stable that has about four horses, and has never been a well known owner or stable that has been around very long.

Perhaps if Sumwonlovesyou runs at Tampa, he'd say "carrying the familiar colors of the DT Stable."

Ya'll tread lightly on my boy from Tampa...

"the field is NOW..entering the starting gate...":D

mclem10011 02-15-2007 06:35 PM

I think......

Vic Stauffer is great, doesn't leave any horses out of his calls, and really gives an exciting stretch call.

MaTH716 02-15-2007 06:56 PM

I think Dooley is as smooth as they come.

SCUDSBROTHER 02-15-2007 07:15 PM

The guy who does the MEADOWS HARNESS.I don't play the races, but that guy is a freak indeed.Named Houston (I think.)

ManilaRose 02-15-2007 08:00 PM

I like Luke for sure. I can't handle Vic at all. Screaming YYYYEEEEESSSSSS!!! at the end of every other race or calling Surf Cat a superstar while beating nothing.

miraja2 02-15-2007 08:08 PM

Yet another vote for John Dooley. He and Durkin are the best.
The two worst are without question Vic Stauffer and Mike Battaglia. Of the two I actually think Stauffer bugs me the most. Battaglia has a TERRIBLE voice, but Stauffer is such an outrageous windbag that I can't stand to listen to him.

Dooley has always been good, even back in the day when he called for NYRA. Not everyone likes him, but I enjoy Imbriale too.

"Straight and Strong" Stauffer is HORRENDOUS, his calls have ruined quite a few decent races.

disappearingdan_akaplaya 02-15-2007 09:26 PM

wrona and stauffer both are better than durkin and definately denman in my book. wrona being the tops for me, 1 of my other all time fav's kevin goemmer(rip)

Where in the hell are you watching MEADOWS HARNESS?

As for the answer to this. Dooley is unbelievable. "RUNNING AWAY FROM THE FIELD LIKE A DAUGHTER WITH DADDY'S CREDIT CARD" absolutley one of the greatest lines of all time at a place where it was extremely FITTING.

John G is awesome and I hope he calls Arlington for the rest of my life, he calls the race, and keeps things flowing, while throwing in nice one liners, and makes a mistake one out of 250 calls. He is SOLID.

He was an excellent announcer

I always liked Maryland/Colonial Dave Rodman and Robert Geller Emerald/Sunland both give great calls. The Mike Chamberlain from Sam Houston and Travis Stone give good calls.

disappearingdan_akaplaya 02-15-2007 09:52 PM

steve cross is another 1 whom ive started to like that past year or so, calls the races@hoosier and is the backup announcer for the brutal battaglia

Mena is 15 times better then he was when he rode at Arlington. Going to Ellis/Turfway was a great move by him, really got him more experience.

I would even go on record to say that he could win a title at Arlington as long as Douglas stayed away, he would get business here now, probably 6-7 rides a day

doubtful he comes back, he was riding for some nice outfits already when he left for example bret calhoun

pmayjr 02-16-2007 12:24 AM

Kimmeastar,
I'm from MPLS, and I hang out at CBY all the time. A lot of guys share the opinion you and your boys do. But I disagree. He calls an accurate race, and like Drukin he puts proper motion into it. I hate these monotoned guys that call races (except in the case of Battaglia. Shut him up all together lol).

pmayjr 02-16-2007 12:24 AM

BTW,
No votes for Battaglia? Where's the love people?
