banned posters

i just read on the espn board that euro was banned. just out of curiosity, what happened? and while we are on the subject....why was oracle banned?
i just want to know because i like this board a lot and i would like to know exactly what i can't say on here.
i am serious about this by the way. i am not trying to be a smart-ass. i really don't know what happened with those guys and i would like to find out if possible.

Don't threaten other posters and I'm sure you'll be fine. Unfortunately for Steve, I say a lot of stuff on here that could probably go without being said :o . I'm still here. :D

There is a simple formula to keep from being banned.
1. Dont personally insult anyone. It is a horseracing forum, supposed to be fun.
2. Dont break the moderators chops. They do a thankless job and at this site do it well. Treat them as you would like to be treated.
3. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but dont use the forum to try to spread anti-social behavior

This is an extremely fair board. If you have to ask what you have to do, you have nothing to worry about. The mods here have legit reasons for what they do. And they aren't looking to boot people either. Some ask for it.

To pony off those, regarding Euro's case, it was one of those where he squeeked and then wouldn't back up his reasoning, and played "mean looking things(can't spell the friggin animal)" and just kept on feeding the fire.

All in all, just don't start stupid ish, it is fine to bitch about a jockey, bitch about an opinion, but say your piece and move on to the next losing ticket......

Don't start gloating again! You never know... you may get the boot! HAHA! :D J/K

I'm probably the only one.....but I sure found Repent's crazed rants in the off-topic section to be highly entertaining.

You know what, with Invasor running Saturday, maybe there'll be some way to squeeze in a bit more gloating, for old times sake.

As did I, but I think he took it a step too far a few times. He definitely enjoyed the reaction he got.

there were too many people who did not share your enjoyment of his rants.

chuck about covers it...

I would add...
you can argue about ideas or opinions you can not insult other members.

you may not threaten another member ever.

if you have issues with certain posters or topics that are offensive to you it should be brought to the attention of a moderater...then it can be deleted or modified without spiraling downward into a fight.

if you develop intense dislike for a particular member I strongly suggest that you put that person on ignore.

i don't think you have anything to worry about in that department. if i didn't get banned for gloating after that race, you didn't have anything to worry about. my infamous "dear bernardini fans" thread became so contentious that one of the moderators starting calling me names (i believe i was referred to as a clown).
that was part of the reason i posted this thread. i wanted to know specifically what line those guys crossed.

yeah i remember that thread, it was fun. one the the greatest feelings i ever had in racing was Invasor running right past the great one.

listen, those guys were banned for breaking one of the rules listed below.
its not right to list on the board the specifics of who did what.

sumitas 01-31-2007 10:38 PM

once in a while i'll post some scotch induced howl late night but thankfully it hasn't been too bad. the board has tolerance for opinions but i do try to stay friendly,,,friends.:)

Another reason I love this sport. Our fans know the difference between "barred" and "banned."

I once had my arse thrown out of a sports bar on the Riverwalk in San Antonio because some guy was taunting and cheering as my team was going down in flames in some season ending playoff game that didn't make a Sam Hill bit of difference in San Antonio. And cripes, I was the only one there supporting my team, so it wasn't like I was in a loud obnoxious.....losing group.....anyhow.

Apparently the taunting guy was hard of hearing, because he asked me to repeat what I said to him the first time.

He heard me the 2nd time as I stated more strongly and clearly, and then I was informed it was not permissible to say "f*** you arsehole" to a bouncer.

I had to leave.

I didn't think to find out if I was barred, or simply banned.

packerbacker7964 02-01-2007 04:38 AM

Starting to look like ESPN over here alittle. Hey if you can't get into with your friends and family whose left to argue with you? I would like to know if one Mod can ban someone or is it a Vote of three? Maybe it should be a board vote like congress to get the boot for good?

MLC 02-01-2007 06:41 AM

I'm a frequent reader here (and infrequent poster). This board is nothing like ESPN. The old board had no controls whatsoever and the new board is so uninformative. The moderators here do a terrific (and sometimes thankless) job. A person should be able to post an opinion without getting "attacked" for having one.

murphgar 02-01-2007 08:07 AM

As they would say on Mike and the Mad Dog - "First Time, Long Time". Never posted because I do not have much to offer compared to the knowledge out here on a regular basis. However, this thread got me thinking and wanting to share. This board is incredible compared to the old ESPN board I read for 18 months or so, dating back to the "Experiment in Group Dynamics" from the college kids. Your moderators have a very steady hand, and a lot of tolerance. I do miss O-80 as even when he is wrong, you get something out of the logic that got him there, and thatis helpful when I look at the next batch of races.

Kasept, thanks from a long time admirer for the board, and to the rest of you for the insoght and laughs.

Was it in the wrong subforum?

thanks for posting--but please continue! the more the merrier--not everyone sees things the same way, and differing viewpoints are helpful.

espn was good for a long time-i started posting there around war emblems derby. but it went south pretty quick a few months ago. i had started posting at t'bred times, and it disappeared due to a few rotten apples, just like espn.

i like it here-so glad steve put it together, and that he has a lot of patience!!

I posted at ESPN for almost 10 years, second longest continual poster to Chris (SCC)...the board always had troll issues and a few flamers who enjoyed personal attacks but was enjoyable because of the cross-section of horse folks who posted there...almost all the worthwhile posters moved here and Steve and those that assist him have done a wonderful job maintaining all the good aspects of the old board while eliminating the problems! Well done!!

somerfrost 02-01-2007 11:17 AM

OK, so that got my mind on the ESPN board so I just dropped by to see what was happening...one of the threads I saw right away was..."Barbaro finally at the glue factory"...so much for visiting that board anytime soon! When folks complain here about posts being removed, free speech yada yada yada, take a second to remember the alternative...some people are simply sad excuses for human beings!

Amen to that, Somer. I went over there last night and didn't regret leaving after reading the titles to a few of the threads. Some people have very little class...

This really is a great board. Especially for those of us that work (I am typing this while I eat lunch and putting in grades). It really helps me keep up with the horses when I dont have the time to read all the sites, DRF etc...

And the folks that do the moderating have a thankless job as already mentioned so I will respect the decisions made even though some of the banned posters added some good info. and because I dont know what they might have done. Some of it was most likely very offensive and unnecessary.

Yup Pgardn. Well said.
I hope Mike comes back, and the same with Euro.
Sometimes the fingers fly faster on the keyboard before the brain kicks in, especially when the "submit reply" comes along.
Tolerance and forgiveness work.
Hey, I'm plenty stupid at times, and a few disagree with me as well.
Makes it interesting, as long as anger and other stuff doesn't come on.
This is the best place.

I was putting in grades yesterday. The year is half over and you know what that means. Halfway to the summer, then on to Toga.

Mike is best in small doses. An occasional break cleanses the palette.
