un effin believable. NTRA National Pick 4 is going to pay HUGE - wonder how many had him??? Really glad to see that Perfect Drift still had "it"...I was doubting him before this race. Looks like our board Grade 1 contest will go another week without a winner in the biggest race - really doubt anyone included Seek Gold!!!

Gander 06-17-2006 05:27 PM

How bad a beat is that if you nailed Perfect Drift to win?

deltaforce97 06-17-2006 05:27 PM

Thought he had a shot to hit the board....but never on top!!!
Can't wait to see the NTRA payouts!!

One of those days I'm very happy I didnt hit the OTB!!! I saw his Clark performance a while back but was very sour on the horse after I backed him in last years Alysheba and he came up empty at Churchill. Anyone want to explain to me how this horse won. Anything in the sheets/racing form? First for new trainer, but the new trainer is only a 14% winner with first time starters. Always hoping to learn a little bit :)

Me too... someone explain to me what happened. Damn, that was as close as it gets for Drifty.

chupster2 06-17-2006 05:33 PM

All I know is you will not see Seek Gold in the Classic but PD will be there with Bells on and he will ROCK! He lost by a freakin' HAIR. To all you who diss, shrug, ddrop him, don't stick him in the top three, when will you learn. THIS is a race horse.

Dead last at the eighth pole.. THE EIGHTH POLE...

Best part of that win is Calvin Borel... The camera on him before it bacame official was priceless... Totally underappreciated guy that grinds it out. I think Randy Moss said it was his first Gr. I win which amazes me...

Wild.. wild.. wild..

Carryober at CD and BEL tomorrow...

Gander 06-17-2006 05:41 PM

Very bold of him to say he knew he got the photo before they posted it. I thought he did too, but then the slow mo looked like Perfect Drift may have gotten it.

Gander 06-17-2006 05:43 PM

Funny how the horse wins one of the biggest races of the year first time away from Zito in a place Zito holds so many great memories.

Holy ****! A Continental.. and a denizen of Wertimer Hall..

Spent many a night at Alteri's 1978-82 where we'd go to watch hockey "pre-cable"... Was "voice" of Red Raider Hockey for 4 years.. Called 2 games from Sage Rink as I recall.. The oldest rink.. AND OLDEST ZAMBONI in existence. At that time, Greg Batt was the HC coach.. He was a Colgate Hockey legend. Must have been 75 then and still coaching. Was at Hamilton maybe 40 years.

Pretty funny.. From Rochchacha? I get there regularly. Doing business with Wegs.. Had tons of friends that were at 'gate from Roch. Brighton especially..

He and Willie Martinez rode Saint and Fleet Valid for Trombetta the morning Desormeaux missed the work.. Seemed like a terrific guy. A major character and deserving of some plaudits and recognition.

There's no real surprise here ...

... the older horses this year are simply dreadful ... the G1 fields have been no better than allowance quality. Someone has to win these races ... and today "someone" did ... a Zito castoff no less.

Lava Man is the only horse who has really shown any talent and consistency. Maybe someone will come off the bench and do something nice ... but until then ... we'll just have to wait for Mayan King to reach his best form in order to have something worthwhile to cheer about.

I've been listening to you say that for over two years now...

If a time machine is ever invented, I hope you'll invest.

No surprise? Oh, okaaaaay.....

Happy Ticket - 1:49.23
Seek Gold - 1:49.24

Wow.

Betsy 06-17-2006 07:31 PM

Holy Moly...........

Lava Man, Surf Cat and Flower Alley aside, this division is not that great. This was not a great field and probably the best chance at a grade 1 for Buzzard's Bay or Brasss Hat.....

I had a steady diet of Alteri's and the VT(Village Tavern) during my 4 years.
They opened the "New" Sage Rink while I was there. I made it down to a few Colgate games myself. Never had a chance to golf at Colgate though, I've always heard it was a great course!!
I'm guessing this means you know where Vernon Downs is?!?!? Thursday nights were great for college kids......a beer and a dog for $1.....
Weggy's is a great company, I think they are now the No. 2 employer in Roch.

Actually, they both already have GI wins, BB- Santa Anita Derby, BH - The Donn

chupster2 06-17-2006 08:58 PM

<irony>Oh but I'm sure they don't deserve to try the Classic. Those weren't GOOD G1's. </irony>

flower alley? lol lets see the horse prove something against the division tops this year before annointing him as anything. somebody also said theres no consistency in the division? well he doesnt win all the time but perfect drift runs consistently well pretty much everytime out

Gander 06-18-2006 06:55 AM

Flower Alley, give me a break. Hes a nice horse, had a nice win in a weak Travers Field where the best horse was coming off a long layoff and injury and rana bang up but still distant second to HOY Saint Liam. Hasnt stepped foot on the track in almost 9 months and his name still gets thrown around as one of the best older horses in training.

Until he wins a few as a 4 year old, his name should not be mentioned with the likes of those who have at least run and have wins under their belt like Lava Man, Surf Cat, Buzzards Bay and Brass Hat.

oracle80 06-18-2006 07:54 AM

Tim Surf cat has NEVER beaten a real field, never. No way can you put him on any list of top horses until he does.

Gander 06-18-2006 07:55 AM

Beating bad horses > not running at all

Thunder Gulch 06-18-2006 08:06 AM

When we last saw Flower Alley, he was better than almost anyone in training now. He'll be in the top 3 when they head to Churchill in October.

Well he gets underway next weekend.

Gander 06-18-2006 08:42 AM

I am not doubting his talent or ability and would be surprised if he wasnt a top horse by the BC. But until he races his name doesnt belong with Lava Man or Surf Cat.

ArlJim78 06-18-2006 08:58 AM

As Seek Gold roared home to take the Foster, I would love to have known the thoughts of Mr. LaPenta and Mr. Zito.

I was happy for Cal Borel, what a genuine display of emotion you could see on his face.

Blue Eyes 06-18-2006 09:12 AM

This win by Seek Gold was not a fluke as some of you might want to think. Didn't he finish 2nd to Saint Liam? Moquet finally gets a horse to prove he is the horseman he really is. Calvin Borel is a top of the line rider. His assurance of his win was no surprise to me. When the money is on the line, never throw Borel out. He tries twice as hard as any other rider out there.

And I thought you couldn't top your " Chantal actually isn't pretty " post.
