What is the Quintessential 80's Song?

Everybody has one song which = 80's. We aren't talking about your favorite 80's songs at all. Just which songs are the best barometers of the 80's music scene

I have 2.

-the first one is Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears---screams 80's everytime I hear it

-second is Take on Me by Aha---you have not only the song but the video which goes along with it

Honorable mention- Jesse's Girl, and Livin on a prayer

paisjpq 01-01-2007 08:01 PM

come on Eileen--dexy's midnight runners

used to have jesse's girl as the ringtone on my phone...love that song.

I know Im not the only guy in here that used to love it when the Whitesnake video from "Here I Go Again" would come on MTV....I swear that chick dancing on the car was staring at me the whole time through that video....:o :o

paisjpq 01-01-2007 08:20 PM

prolly the enduring 80's song would be one of the MANY annoying tunes by Madonna... material girl or like a virgin...

or cyndi lauper before she stopped letting the record company tell her what to record....

Hickory Hill Hoff 01-01-2007 08:20 PM

Wake me up before you go go???

Tawny Kitaen, got arrested for beating up MLB pitcher Chuck Finley. You know the sound guy for the White Sox actually got fired because he played that Whitesnake song when Chuck Finley went to take the mound for the Indians in Chicago shortly after the arrest? Talk about the management not having a sense of humor.

no ****...wow.

I think the 1980's might also be the last time I listened to an entire rap album. That is when it was good and you could understand them....

now where is that Heavy D and The Boys tape when I need it????:D

You best not be intending that sarcastically. GR loves me some Leppard.

My dad can't swim either. That's just scary when you think of it. But there was a backstory where his sister basically threw him into the water at the beach when he was a baby and so he never learned to swim.

george carlin says that swimming isn't a sport swimming is a way to keep from drowning...I guess I never understood what was so hard about keeping one's head above water:confused: ...
I actually don't know if she can swim...but I was told by one of her neighbors (girl I knew in college) that she couldn't.

GenuineRisk 01-01-2007 08:35 PM

"Melt With You" would be my choice, but I'll add onto the list:

(so with you with "Come on Eileen," Bethani)

"Tempted"

"Save a Prayer" (not the most famous Duran Duran, but I think the best one)

"Born in the USA"

Oh! Oh! And "In a Big Country." LOVE that song!

LOVE THAT SONG

Kasept 01-01-2007 08:39 PM

This is an open and shut case:

#1. Modern English: I'll Melt With You

Period.. Utterly timeless. Still as fresh 20+ years later. A song I NEVER get tired of hearing.

The rest of a Top 10..

Depeche Mode: EVERYTHING..
The Cure: Nearly EVERYTHING..
Men at Work: Who Can It Be Now?
Fine Young Cannibals: She Drives Me Crazy
Flock of Seagulls: I Ran
Katrina and the Waves: Walking on Sunshine
Midnight Oil: Beds are Burning
The Divnyls: I Touch Myself
Bananarama: Cruel Summer/Venus
