Has Giacomo been retired?

If not, where will Giacomo turn up next?

blackthroatedwind 12-21-2006 06:02 PM

Retired. He's through embarrassing DrugS.

He should have stuck around and tried the turf....

I like Giacomo. Here's hoping that he is a smash hit at stud so that people will quit dissing the horse. He was always a very useful animal, and loved Churchill Downs.

Cajungator26 12-21-2006 06:34 PM

I think he'll be a very useful stallion.

The worst derby winner in the last 50 years, he only won because that bad riding Jeremy Rose managed to get Afleet alex stopped 18 different times, has been whisked off to a career at stud which is surely going to be as mediocre as his racing career. He will end up standing in Korea, or Turkey, a bottom tier market befitting his athletic ability and class.

He burned these btches on Derby day.You can't expect them to give him any respect. One thing he did have is class. His best 2 races were in the 2 biggest races in the World(1st in the Derby, and 4th in the BC Classic.)He beat the Lemonade-for-Cancer horse, and cost all but a few people a lot of dough.See the majority on here are out to find the quickest horse in the world, and crown him their king.Problem is that those horses get beat. They don't bring it,and they get beat.If you don't bring it on the day, then it doesn't matter how good you are(you will get beat.)

Russia is trying to get more involved in racing.

why?

not being critical, Id just like an explanation.

I think best case scenario would be something like his sire.

I like anything to do with Holy Bull. Plus, my husband and I cleaned up with Giacomo in his Derby. He should breed to quick sprinter types. He has the stamina. Maybe his detractors will believe in him when he sires a few stakes winners. Stronach loves Holy Bull horses; maybe some talented girls will be breeding to Giacomo.

Personally, I love his conformation. I also love the fact that he's got higher leg action. I can see him being a versatile sire for both dirt and turf runners. He gets a lot of hate, but I like him a lot. I hope he proves all of his naysayers wrong. :)

Cajun,
As you probably already know, I like "higher leg action" as well.
"Versitile sires" take 'em where they find 'em, and bring new levels of excitement.
Oh...I'm talking horses, in case you didn't know.

Let's cut to the chase and admit that most sires in general will take 'em where they can get 'em. :)

Never understood the Giacomo naysayers.. I liked him and the rest of that SA Derby crew going into the Derby when everyone else hated the whole group. (Still wonder what happened to General John B..) Had him across the board, and Closing Argument P/SH to boot.

Mike Smith told me, and anyone who cared to believe him, everything you needed to know about their chances Tuesday before Derby:

He actually worked 3 times in November, I was pretty shocked when I saw that. Unfortunately he hasn't worked since so looks like they hit another bump in the road.

I liked him enough to toss him on the bottom two rungs of a super, but then again -- that super had Wilko and Bellamy Road on top with Closing Argument nowhere to be found.....so take that with a grain of salt. I never did, though, understand those who put him immediately on the "no-hoper" list.

It was a fine performance by horse and rider alike, and I feel the same way about this year's BCC -- no shame finishing behind the horses he did. I think he should be pretty darn good at stud actually.

Cajun,
I highly recommend "Horse of a Different Color" by Jim Squires.
Very good read...and hope for "small time breeders".
Oh yeah...I'm finished shopping. Wheeww!

I think Giacomo will do fine at stud. I can't see too many negatives. He actually ran a pretty full season at age 4 and was pretty healthy for the most part this year. What, only the second Derby winner this century to do that...actually run at 4?? Of course the other one to do it was a gelding so that doesn't count. I know running after age 3 is just a quaint notion nowadays, but I have a hunch Giacomo's will do just fine.
