It's finally here. I'm published!

Exclusively Equine ad is on-line

"Great Thoroughbred Sires of the World (Pre-Order)
"Hardcover Our Price: $230.00
Availability: Expected Ship Date: 11/27/2006
"A definitive reference which highlights the racing and stud careers of 205 stallions which shaped the Thoroughbred breeding and racing world in the 20th Century and beyond. This epic work ranks right up there with Debrett’s Peerage as a real tour de force. The statistical information includes each horse’s race and stud record, its record as a broodmare sire plus the stud record of its principal sire sons and grandsons.

"In-depth profiles and expert commentaries on 205 of the world’s breed-shaping sires.

"Over 10 years of research!"

'In-depth profile and expert commentaries', that's my part. Well, actually, I only did one profile, Hoist the Flag, but, hey! this is my first time in hardcover - everything else so far has been magazine stuff. I'm so thrilled I had to share.

Congrats!! But 230 bucks sounds a little steep, lemme know when it comes out in paperback, nothing personal of course.

hoovesupsideyourhead 11-17-2006 06:04 PM

paisjpq 11-17-2006 06:08 PM

ArlJim78 11-17-2006 06:11 PM

Congrats

Way to go Pedigree Ann.
My wife just got published also so i know how hard and the amount of hours it takes to pull that off.

Best of Luck,

PSH:)

timmgirvan 11-17-2006 07:24 PM

Congrats Ann! Lots of hard work and skill needed for this accomplishment, and probably well worth the tab for it! Will you be making the rounds on daily shows? Best Timm

brianwspencer 11-17-2006 07:38 PM

YAHOO! It costs almost as much as my share of a month's rent :D but hopefully ill get a chance to read it someday. As a writer, I'm jealous and very happy for you!

kentuckyrosesinmay 11-17-2006 07:43 PM

Congrats Ann.:D I'll definitely buy one...eventually. It's now officially on my Christmas wish list.

SniperSB23 11-17-2006 07:47 PM

Congrats, that is awesome but $230 is out of my price range.

Pedigree Ann 11-17-2006 08:27 PM

My pay for the one essay is one copy of the book, no royalties. But I only get $150 for my longer, monthly articles, so it's a pretty good deal. And I get to be grouped in with a bunch of stars in the field, whether I deserve it or not.

MLC 11-17-2006 08:49 PM

What an awesome accomplishment. Congratulations.

Danzig 11-17-2006 08:50 PM

and i just LOVE the front cover pic for the new book!

cal828 11-17-2006 08:56 PM

Good for you Ann. Also, congrats on your play in public handicapper. I was rooting for you. Hope you win (or finish in the top 3) next time.

on a suuny day 11-17-2006 10:38 PM

Big Congratulations to you P Ann, you have good reason to be on cloud nine

Dunbar 11-17-2006 10:53 PM

well done Ann.
that book will be my Christmas present to myself.
sounds like it will be a good read.

seeing that you are an author, are there any other thoroughbred books comprised of biographies or breeding that you would especially recommend?

I read the Bloodhorse's Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th Century and the similar book that Thoroughbred Times put out.
Ive read most of the essential handicapping books, but I was hoping to buy some more biographical based books on the sport.
thanks.

Congratulations. That sounds like a book that will find it's way into the home of every top breeder in the world. I will be sure to pick up a few copies as Christmas gifts.

I know your stallion was one of the most talented horses to ever run. I would not call myself an expert like you but I know his Grecian Banner was actually the mother of Personal Ensign. It is pretty remarkable how he produced really good daughters and not so good sons. Does the book get into AEI/CI ratios?

You must feel like you owned Hoist The Flag after becoming the Hoist The Flag expert. I hear how authors feel they knew people they were writing about and started to talk to them as if they were alive (Doris Kearns Goodwin said this about Lincoln). So do you find yourself rooting for anything from his bloodlines?

I root for all the Hail to Reason horses, especially those from Roberto like Dynaformer. I have wasted quite a few dollars betting on horses simply because they came from that Hail to Reason line.

Congratulations and Happy Thanksgiving.

GPK 11-18-2006 07:51 AM

Congrats Ann....and for $230, this book has a day at Barnes and Noble written all over it...just read it for free.:D

BellamyRd. 11-18-2006 11:33 AM

does this book have a section on the sire, Kafwain
and if so how extensive is the section?
$230, who set that price, the publisher?
I spend a lot of my life in book stores
and don't see many in that price range

Bold Reasoning 11-18-2006 12:04 PM

Congratulation Ann! I am going to hint to my husband about my birthday coming up soon. :D

Like many books for a specialized audience, this one has a higher price than mass market books. I expect they have used 'coffee table book' quality photos of the horses and glossy paper, that sort of thing. I haven't seen it yet - was supposed to be able to get mine at a party given by the editor (Byron, the Aussie who does matings for Taylor Made), but it hasn't come off yet. Some previous 'prestige' reference books about breeding and pedigrees have been over $100 and as a result, I don't own them.

witchdoctor 12-05-2006 12:57 PM

The book arrived yesterday. Looks like it is going to be a great reference. If quite studying pedigrees, I can use it for working out my biceps.(The thing weighs about 10 pounds.):D :D

GenuineRisk 12-05-2006 01:40 PM

Congrats, Ann! This may finally motivate me to go get a library card.

$230 sounds like a not unusual price for a very large reference manual. I remember $80 college textbooks and I bet they weren't half as nice (or as interesting) as I imagine this book is... :)

Wow, another RTTR alumnus! I really hated it when they shut down the board. A few people who couldn't keep on topic and play nice ruined it for the rest of us. Actually, I'm on another board with a bunch of people who didn't want to stop talking after the contest one year and we are now like family.

Samm 12-06-2006 09:49 AM

Congrats Ann!!! What a rush you must feel!! Maybe the publisher will send a copy so we can get you some air time!!! I am the official reader of ATRAB and can't wait to read it!!

Actally, Gene and Kevin ARE on our private horse fans board on Yahoo. We do also chat on the Pick 6 board in season. I have another spinoff board (for handicappers, not just racing fans) on Yahoo with some Pick 6 alumni. I spend a lot of time on boards - yes, I have no life.
