not to beat a dead horse but, ...
just got done watching that crime otherwise known as the Belmont Stakes 2004. The jockeys on RHTen and EDDIngton (eddington esp.) shouldve been stripped of their liscense to ride in NY..Smarty's preakness ranks in the top three races i have ever witnessed, as his dominance was well displayed..Stewie shouldve known that the "top tier" jockeys werent gonna let a drunken 5k claimer jock win the TC, a feat that neither of them have achieved..Smarty was a once in a lifetime horse and its a damn shame that it had to end like that..Absolutely pitiful..Who should take the brunt of the blame here??

Ive blamed Bailey since the moment the race ended.
A brief look at Eddington's PPs tells a lot to me. Bailey, Eddington's rider in 6 of 8 career starts including the Preakness, Belmont, Wood, and Gotham was not aboard again in his career after this debacle. Perhaps he had other engagements and that pissed Hennig off, but I dont think thats the case. I dont know for sure, perhaps someone more knowledable can tell me I'm wrong, but it seems VERY strange to me that Bailey wouldnt be back aboard. I'll always view this as like you said...a crime. |

Now, cynic that I am, when a thread like this pops up I get the distinct feeling that someone is just trying to start trouble, as there really is no bigger internet hot-spot that a Smarmy Jones debate. It also seems these kind of threads are invariably started by someone with a handful of posts.
Jeez.....the race was 2 1/2 years ago....there are 47,863 threads on various other boards about it....do we really need another one. Next! |

I'm very sursprised that anyone would be angry at Solis or Bailey. I think that there are a number of things that got Smarty beat in the Belmont. The fast pace was a factor. The distance was a factor. The fact that the race was his 5th race in 11 weeks was a huge factor. The fact that Elliot asked the horse for everything and won the Preakness by 11 lengths, instead of winning by 5 lengths under a strangle-hold was a huge factor. Elliot made a huge mistake winning the Preakness by 11 lengths. I think he pretty much squeezed the lemon dry. I think that Smarty was a great horse. I think that if even one of those factors that I mentioned would have been different, I think that Smarty could have won the race. |

By the way, I have no idea where that guy got the impression I owned horses. Even I wouldn't lie about that. |

Hell, I still have the original Playstation. Don't play very often anymore...but I spent one winter glued to it about five or six years ago. |
