Just guessing, but I think he looks like the guy in the commercial for Dos Equis.

DOS EQUIS = SOUNDS LIKE = “2 HORSES “

cal828 02-10-2019 09:21 PM

I believe it is a Mexican beer. I am not much of a TV watcher anymore except for the news and weather, but occasionally catch a commercial and I have seen the one for Dos Equis a few times. Maybe it's appropriate for a beer to be named two horses. Some people may think that some beers are comparable to horse urine. My Dad used to say that about Falstaff beer.:)

Ruff must be into the catnip again.

Real Quiet 02-11-2019 06:04 AM

Congrats on the win Tom. I'll admit I like finishes like that. You're watching two players Duke it out and a third swooped in for the win. Kind of like Abel Tasman.

Roamin42 02-11-2019 07:02 AM

To be honest, "I am not much of a beer drinker, but when I do, it's COORS"

JolyB 02-11-2019 07:44 AM

We don't need to worry about Dos Equis having any equine references (including the possibility of running the beer through the horse before serving it - although Cal phrased it in a much more elegant way).

In fact, Dos Equis means two x's (XX) and even features two large X's on the label. Way back in the 20th century it was called "Twentieth Century", or Siglo XX. When the next century approached, a new name was used with the trademark XX carried over. At the same time, the ad campaign featuring the "most interesting man in the world" began and sales skyrocketed.

As for the horse reference, in Spanish a horse is un caballo.

Stay thirsty, my friends.

Me too, but I can't remember the last time I even had a beer. I think it was in Las Vegas a few years ago and it was the product of Golden, Colorado. I'm not against drinking, but for me, it must have been just a social thing. I didn't set out to stop drinking, it just happened.

cal828 02-11-2019 10:47 AM

Sadly, my command of Spanish is almost nil; however, I did go to Tijuana a few times and of course most people there are bi-lingual so it didn't matter. Wife and I were coming back from a trip down there once and we were almost out of Mexico on the way back to San Diego and we were pulled over by a Mexican motorcycle cop. Being two hicks from Arkansas, we didn't realize the rental car we were driving was not insured to be in Mexico and that was the reason he pulled us over. He kept us there for a long time. I think he was looking for a bribe. We were in a rented Lincoln and I was wearing a $20 Rolex, I had just bought on Revolucion Boulevard so he probably thought we were rich. I guess he finally got tired of waiting for his
bribe or maybe thought we were too dumb to bribe him, and he let us go.

RUFFIAN 02-11-2019 02:22 PM

DOES ANYONE ELSE THINK ROAMIN LOOKS LIIKE KENNY ROGERS?

OR IS IT JUST THE 'CATNIP' THAT MAKES ME SEE IT? :zz: :{>: :zz:

Lived in San Diego most of my life. Only went down to Mexico a couple of times with friends to go water skiing, but not any where near Tijuana. You are correct Cal, those federales are well known for corruption and bribes. They used stolen cars from folks in San Diego for their police vehicles!

Roamin42 02-11-2019 06:54 PM

Plenilune, it has been long overdue for sure, this is only the 2nd time that it was achieved by me in the years of participating .Feels good, lol

San Diego is a lovely place. I haven't been there a lot, but went some with my wife. She had family there. Her Dad and Stepmother retired to San Diego from Chicago. Her Stepmother was originally from San Diego and wanted to move back there to be near her family. They owned a big construction company there and I believe their company built the border crossing there which I think is Chula Vista? I imagine that you have been to Point Loma, right? Such a beautiful view of the ocean up there on Point Loma.

THANK “U” FOR NOTICING MY TYPO ERROR :zz:

WHEREVER WOULD I BE WITHOUT YOUR KEEN OBSERVANCES ~ :p

Somehow....NO Clue WHY...
All These Years.... I’ve Spelled It EQUS....FOR HORSE

ElPrado 02-12-2019 02:59 PM

The correct spelling has always been equus for horse in Greek.

RUFFIAN 02-12-2019 06:16 PM

I already thanked you once for noticing my error!

So thank you AGAIN for bringing that to my attention :)

Perhaps a third time might actually have it sink in :zz:

All these years I have somehow never noticed the Additional “U”
