I understand but it's a real BUMMER!!!

Thoroughbred Fan 07-25-2018 04:12 PM

$75,000,000 reasons not to run anymore. Frankly, I'm fine with it because Scat Daddy is gone. Maybe he can carry on where SD left off. An impressive 111 day career.

Kasept 07-26-2018 03:22 AM

Great accomplishment winner six races and 4 G1's in 111 days. Not running in the Classic is disappointing.

I recall several people including myself who thought this was an excellent crop.
It's always premature to do such, but that is what we all do as players. Mendy was a "hot" colt; Audible was undefeated. MMoon look very solid, Bolt was an exciting colt, Good Magic will win the Haskell and is a very good colt, FFire is a good colt. I actually think the list is fairly impressive.

Have looked at the colts Slew beat at 3, nobody knew he was truly fast until his 4-year-old campaign.
Sad to see him retired. Lost a 100.00 to boot

RHT2004 07-26-2018 09:46 AM

What Justify accomplished in such s short amount of time is nothing short of amazing. But just of the recent Baffert horses I would take Arrogate and American Pharaoh over Justify all day.

WTF does that mean? Who was he supposed to beat other than all the 3yo's that were available? Oafish remark.

Ridiculous

Some folks thought that once the Apollo jinx was broken it would usher in new age of trainers not running horses at 2. Does Justify's early retirement signal too much too fast and dissuade them of doing that?

We never got to see just how great he would have been. I was always hopeful that Travers, Breeeders Cup, Pegasus would be the plan. It was so cool that American Pharaoh kept going for the rest of the year.

I love it when the boss teaches us new words. Maybe a new monicker for you Freddy.....Oafish Freddy Mo.
Wifey was chuckling yesterday as they approached the seventh fence when Collmus , right on cue, came with the penultimate fence call. Though it ain’t what it used to be since they got rid of the most important fence of all in the steeplechase races....

We would all be guessing including Baffert. When I listen to Baffert talk about the trio I get the impression he believes AP was his best ever, maybe it's the fanboy in me, maybe it's the fanboy in Baffert?

Fig guys will tell you Arrogate was the fastest at his best.

Alabama Stakes 07-26-2018 10:12 AM

I think AP would beat both those guys. Watch his first ever workout....magic

If we are talking 1 race 10f all horses at there best, i want Arrogate. It's not really close.

I would tend to agree given the prerequisite above. Arrogate's Travers is on my Mt Rushmore and is DWC ain't far behind. I also think AP's BCC is dissed way too much.

RHT2004 07-26-2018 11:01 AM

Arrogate BCC is an amazing race. He gunned down Chrome on the money after Chrome had that race handed to him. A beautiful performance.

RHT2004 07-26-2018 11:04 AM

Arrogate steals the show in the BC Classic.

Right or wrong I never rated Chrome and certainly not as high as Gun Runner. It's all pretty subjective at that level.

On his best day, Ghostzapper runs them all off their feet between 6 and 10f. Too bad he was such a cripple and needed huge breaks betwens starts to get well enough to even run. Had he been healthy enough to train more regularly, it would have been scary.

His very best vs Arrogates very best is a great race. It's no cake walk for GZ.

Of course you can only beat what's in front of you, so what was the point of putting that list?

19 on the list are graded stakes winners.

Only Core Beliefs and Firenze Fire have won a graded stakes (both G3) since May.

12 horses: Gronkowski, Restoring Hope, Quip, Audible, Instilled Regard, My Boy Jack, Solomini, Bolt D'Oro, Enticed, Magnum Moon, Tre, and Show Time Rocket have either retired, been officially given time off, or have sparse worktabs.

5 on the list have won a race of any consequence in July. Firenze Fire (G3), Hofburg (STK), Shivermetimbers (ALW), Paddock Pick (MSW), and Jimmy Chila (40K claimer).

RolloTomasi 07-28-2018 04:12 PM

Add Promises Fulfilled to the list of Grade 3 stakes winners post-Derby...

ElPrado 07-29-2018 04:32 PM

How many on that list were kept on the Derby trail, to be defeated again by Justify? Needed a rest after trying to? None could. You may be looking at it wrong.
If they come back and look good again, does that mean we are all mistaken?

declansharbor 07-29-2018 07:27 PM

Some DOPE on Twitter (TracksideTyler) just had the nerve to say that Good Magic is a “nice 2nd tier horse”.

Follow this loser at your own peril. I’m about to ask him to prove that he paid off the Kentucky Derby bet ($50 to winner’s charity of choice). I picked Disabled Jockey Fund. This dude was SOOO against Justify and $hit-talked him so badly prior to the Derby that I had enough of it and told him to put his money where his $hitty mouth is. I gave him 3 horses and I took Justify. I think his horses were Audible, Magnum Moon, and Mendelssohn (perhaps). One laid up, one retired, and Mendy might never win another race in his lifetime unless they get him back on his preferred surface!

richard burch 08-12-2018 10:13 PM

This is nice to see....

McKinzie ...thought this was the best horse going into the derby preps.

Last I heard, if he had thumbs, he would twiddle them.

But, now I will behave myself and see what I can find out.

ElPrado 08-13-2018 04:45 AM

Pennsylvania Derby seems to be where Baff is thinking of sending him. I still can't get this thing to post a link, I have some setting wrong. I think there is a story this morning in drf.
