Quality Road

Quality Road is the 2014 Leading Freshman Sire. What made him so good and where does his future take him?

http://regalbloodlines.com/2014/12/3...freshman-sire/

freddymo 12-31-2014 08:09 AM

I would suspect there will be plenty more offspring of Quality Road at "theaters near by' for as long as he is alive and breeding.

Doonior1 12-31-2014 09:27 AM

I meant what made his freshman year as a sire of quality and will he have continued success as a sire in year's ahead. Read the article.

cakes44 12-31-2014 09:49 AM

He might be off to a good start, but he'll never be anything compared to Golden Missile as a sire.

Aaah I see you have a new nickname. Well done.

Only time will tell. He has many years left to catch up with him.

The Golden Missle reference is one of the longest-running 'inside jokes' in Derby Trail lore.. I can't begin to explain. Should be safe to say that Quality Road will have a better stallion career than Golden Missle. He has already.

Doonior1 12-31-2014 10:56 AM

I'll look online and try to catch on. Thanks.

I will never forget Quality Road going bat$hit crazy at the post for the Classic. I hope he doesn't pass that trait to his offspring. I do think he was a talented horse, as well as a good-looking one.:)

Here are the final standings for the freshman sires of 2014. I think Super Saver had a better year than Quality Road. Half of Quality Road's money was from one horse (Hootenanny, who won the BC Juvenille turf). I think the two big duds were Eskenderaya and Blame, neither of whom even cracked the top 10.

I wouldn't toss Blame yet.

Yes. Who was expecting a later-developing 9-10f type to throw precocious win-early runners..

Quality Road hails from some pretty regal bloodlines. His breeder and owner, Edward Evans, knows about endurance,

Have to give him 3 or 4 crops to pan out.

I give him very little shot. Most of his two year olds were just not good movers. They had a very poor way of going. Their knee action was terrible. If he had pretty movers that just weren't that fast, then I would have some hope that they may do well when they stretch out. But that wasn't the case. Most of them were just ugly movers. I would be extremely surprised if he makes it as a sire.

You'll say anything to diminish Zenyatta's legacy.

Weren't there a couple of decent Blames early in the year? I thought there was some hype on his first couple of runners.

I'm sure you were only kidding but I don't think Blame's performance as a sire will have much impact on Zenyatta's legacy.

There were a couple Blame two year olds that looked pretty good. But the vast majority did not look good at all.

Based on race career, it's tough to predict who will be a good sire. A couple of the best sires right now are Tapit and Malibu Moon. Tapit won a few races but overall he didn't accomplish all that much on the track. I think he only ran about 5 times total. Malibu Moon only ran twice. I don't think too many people would have predicted that either one of those would be star sires.

If you would have asked me who was going to be better between Eskenderaya and Super Saver, I would have said Eskenderaya. I thought he was a much better horse than Super Saver. But after the first few two year old sales this year, then I had the opposite opinion. There were a lot of Super Saver two year olds that looked like they could really run. Most of the Eskenderayas looked awful and that has pretty much panned out on the track so far.

Way to early to comment on success at stud -Esky and Blame are likely to have runners develop at 3

I'm going to have a Quality Road foal hitting the ground pretty soon. Mares name is Gold Collection. Going to be a La Bred. Crossing my fingers for a healthy foal.

I don't think it's too early to tell. It's obviously too early to tell with 100% certainty. In this business, it's not too often that I would claim anything with 100% certainty. So I admit that there is still a small chance that Eskendereya and/or Blame could still turn out to be good sires. It is possible but very unlikely.

A I said before, the vast majority of their offspring are just not good movers. That's not going to change significantly as they get older. If you have a 2 year old who is a really ugly mover, he's not going to become a pretty mover as a 3 year old.

I can't think of a single sire over the years that had 2 year olds that practically all looked like crap and then went on to become a successful sire. It just doesn't happen. There are good sires that don't do great with 2 year olds. But there is a big difference between a route sire who has good looking two year olds, that are pretty movers, that look like they want to run long, as compared to a route sire whose 2 year olds simply look like crap. For example, Bernardini is a route sire who has good looking 2 year olds that are very pretty movers who look like they want to run long. Whereas the vast majority of Eskendereya and Blame's offspring look like they can't run period. They don't look like they will improve with distance or age.

From a bettor's standpoint, the most reliable of the top freshman sires were Looking at Lucky and Munnings.

Lucky sired the most winners (29) and had 10 repeat winners - more than double any other freshman sire.

Munnings had 27 winners - and at least from personal experience, some nice payoffs.

I love including progeny of these promising new stallions in my betting tickets.

Forgive me. Since you talked about a doosh bag and someone who posts a lot commenting on your post, and you, in fact, did post a comment on your other post, I naturally assumed you referred to yourself.

Surely you can forgive me this time for an honest mistake.

Best of luck for your mare. She is being bred to top "Quality" IMO.

We bought Gold Collection for 35k in foal to Quality Road. She is a young mare who has not yet had a foal make the races. I believe her first foal is a yearling by War Front. I'll have to keep an eye on that one.. Thanks for your write ups...

Doonior1 01-09-2015 08:00 AM

Good luck and your welcome!

Blame actually has a horse on the Derby trail. The Pletcher horse that won the Withers yesterday is by Blame. That is Blame's first stakes winner. I wouldn't get too optimistic on Blame based on one horse, but it is certainly better to have one stakes winner than no stakes winners.

tanner12oz 02-08-2015 04:33 PM

Was looking for this thread yesterday after the withers..glad to see the blame progeny running well
