Lots of runaway winners that hang on at Toga.

It sucks.

I knew that was s*** field, for a mule like the 5 to win it really confirms that. :wf

I'm guessing 1:55.65 will hold up as the slowest dry track nine furlongs of the meet.

Brandini was consistently posting closing quarters in 27+ seconds going a mile. If you look at the mile time in that second race (1:41 and change), this made the four year old money-burning filly a player.

Three noteworthy rides from that second race.

First, Manny Franco at least made the effort to control the race with his race position given the short run to the first turn, setting honest fractions on a main course that might be duller than I originally thought it would be.

Second, Junior Alvarado again finds trouble where none existed by getting hung up three wide for the entire first turn without any real purpose of moving forward or finding a pocket. He looked completely clueless as to how to move his mount in the 48 and change half. Should have realized that this trainer/jockey combo would have no real game plan when the hooves hit the dirt.

Third, Taylor Rice was glued to the pine up the backstretch and found space at the three-sixteenths to come through. While she was never catching the winner, I sure would like to see her bring a mount or two tipping off cover into the lane as opposed to being the leading graduate of the Calvin Bo-Rail school of horsemanship.

The final five furlong fractions were 26.46, 26.77, and 14.09 for a 1:07.32. We will see how the other dirt efforts unfold, but this is really very slow compared with the first ten days of the meet. Could the rain and track maintenance really have made that much of a difference in the last 48 hours?

Pretty sure that was just a terrible field. The winning Beyer should be in the 50's.

You will go broke very quick betting horses like Brandini. That was an awful field.

Willet takes the field six panels in 1:09 and change. Seems that the second race field was indeed extremely weak on the numbers.

Several notes to self after the sixth race.

No matter how hard the prerace prattle and various publications pump up any Parx shipper for the remainder of the meeting, I will not bite. Their 25K claimers are not even in the same range as the New York 16K-20K claimers. Along with My Donna Jean (#5) who was left, I had Kelwynne (#8) in the back-half of rolling doubles and the Parx/Angel Arroyo combo should have had me knowing better.

That said, Coast of Sangria over 25K claimers at 6.5f (Beyer 76) showed as much as the other locals and at a $30.00 price was certainly good value. I would have had to go four deep to get this one at best.

ateamstupid 07-30-2014 02:17 PM

This is some astounding redboarding going on. I must've missed where you posted your picks in here.

ScottJ 07-30-2014 02:20 PM

One other thought about Coast of Sangria - if you were able to toss the two Starter Allowances and just focus on her last three claiming races, you would have a very different picture, no? Also, if the program eliminated those Starter Allowances, this one could have been third choice on the board at worst. Did not have the horse on my tickets, but sure can see the in-form performances now after the race!

No redboarding here - missed the race entirely and went back to see how I could have included the winner. Nothing more, nothing less.
