Short fields on Saturday

Wow...

Beldame- 6
Flower Bowl- 7
Vosburgh- 5
Joe Hirsch- 6 (Rabbit doesnt count)
Jockey Club- 4

Huge on talent but the wagering is not going to be all that great unless you absolutely love somebody.

Not a great wagering day...but heck, if you absolutely love somebody, there are other places to show the "love" besides the track, if ya know what I mean.

Yes, I picked a bad Weekend to make a come back, maybe find something earlier in the card and watch the rest...

I've looked at every race in the last hour. Sadly I agree. Fun to see the big boys in certain races. But the fields sure used to be bigger in these.

Gander 10-05-2006 07:38 PM

Reminds me of the awful Travers Day cards the last 2 years.

Gander 10-05-2006 07:46 PM

So much for getting a good price on War Front. My guess is something like this:

Henny Hughes- 6/5
Silver Train 2/1
War Front- 2/1
Whos the Cowboy- 8/1
Attilas Storm- 12/1

Even worse? This is actually a pretty good field. Much better than the JCGC.

Tons of talent that is for sure. But it is a sad state of affairs when a Grade I gets 4 horses.

Gander 10-05-2006 07:52 PM

Lava Man will win by 5 and people on here will say he beat nothing. Same old song and dance. Gets pretty tired after a while. If this horse was based on the east coast, he'd be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Gander 10-05-2006 08:02 PM

I see Fleet Indian is going out. We'll see what kind of horse she is without an easy lead. Unless I see the White Mercedes pulling up next to her barn, I am betting against her with both fists.

2MinsToPost 10-05-2006 08:02 PM

Whats funny, just an observation, is I don't see any 4 horse field Graded Stakes races at a poly track this weekend. Just an observation, I am neither for or against hint hint Oracle, Euro etc......

2MinsToPost 10-05-2006 08:04 PM

Come to think of it, many a Graded Stakes race in New York this year has had very small fields.

Just my observation, no need to attack.

Gander 10-05-2006 08:05 PM

I'd take 4 horse fields at Belmont over 12 horse fields on the polycrap any day of the week. Why not just run indoors while we're at it. Throw in Mike Battaglia's voice and I'd rather eat Mcdonalds hamburgers all day.

I love to eat a Big Mac every now and then, no love for their milkshakes either?

Gander 10-05-2006 08:10 PM

Your kidding right? Mcdonalds shouldnt have the right to call those things milkshakes. Far and away the worst I have ever had. But I do like their sundaes and for $1, you cant beat them. Last week I was so depressed I went to Mcdonalds for lunch and ordered 2 supersize order of fries and 3 hot fudge sundaes.

Get used to poly. It will eventually be everywhere. It saves horses and it saves a ton in veterinary bills. Poly might get us back to when horses raced more than 7-8x a year and should make for great field sizes.

Funny, I like to do this once a week. I go to MsDonalds and get a Big Mac and a Shake, then go to Wendy's and order a large fry.

If you live in Saratoga, go to the Rib-Burgers/Ice Cream place across the street from the new Best Western for Milk Shakes.

I go to Taco Bell for that

Only he hasn't win outside Cali yet which would mean if he was based on the east coast he would be just another horse on the backside

What? If he was on the East Coast he would be the 2nd best horse. Maybe 3rd behind Invasor. Look at some of the joke winners like in the Woodward. Lava Man would have won that race easily.

disappearingdan_akaplaya 10-05-2006 08:30 PM

its ironic how all the people that bashed poly and keeneland and said that a large majority of the horsemen dont like it have such small fields in lucrative stakes@their hometrack saturday and keeneland has decent size fields for theirs(8,9,11). if it rains should we cancel racing since all horses dont like sloppy tracks LMFAO???? again im tired of the whining and biatching about poly simply because people refuse to adjust their handicapping.

as far as lava man goes i am a fan of the horse and hes a great story but very hard for me to endorse him outside of cali until he proves it!

Actually you dont save money on vet bills. They are reduced a little but not that much to make a fuss over.

i dont think you can make a fair assesment either way yet as far as vet bills go until you getta large sample of horses that train and run exclusively(year round) on poly, and that may even be skewed considering some trainers go to the vet alot more regardless whether it be legal or illegally

some horses just perform dramatically better at some dirt tracks compared to others. there are a slew of horses here in chicago that love arlington where the competition is a little tougher and hate hawthorne and dont do a thing over it and vice versa! how many horses do you see in ny that hate the inner and some that absolutely love it.....alot

pgardn 10-05-2006 09:16 PM

I think the Vosburg is an interesting race.

I am looking forward to it.

Mabey 3rd behind Invasor which means he would not of won Jack on the East Coast. Your the same dude that said Oh wait till Shirroco runs and the Euros come what ever man. In case you missed it the horse ran last in the smallest field in the ARCH in some time.

The Goodwood field looks like a rerun of Lava's last two races
