Keeneland Fall Meet - Poly, Trakus and Beer. OH MY!
![]() http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky...l/15579637.htm I'm tempted to make the trip this Saturday to see the new and improved(?) Keeneland. I'm not sold on poly but it's here and it's not going to keep me from playing the ponies and getting drunker than Cooter Brown on a perfect fall afternoon. Any of you plan on going? |

Makes me want to vomit!!
Thanks PP, the Bengals got drilled yesterday and now I have to have this to remind me of how bad Keeneland is going to be...The Fall Meet at KEE was by far my best Meet of the year, for the last 4 years, had a signer out of it...I was in Lexington last Weekend, must have had 20 people ask me what weekends I was coming down for KEE, they were all stunned when I told them I was boycotting Keeneland... |
Looks fantastic to me.

I took a "test run" on the stuff during the Sept. sale. It feels dead - cushions the shock of your run 100%. No reverb up your legs... hard to describe. The track improvements look unbelievable, but the weird thing is that the wire casings in the track mix look JUST like ice cream rainbow sprinkles. The whole track's full of 'em. |
I actually took a gallop around the track on my horse last week. The surface is outstanding. The new improvements to the tote board is also awesome. The track is much flatter now. The old track actually had a 9 foot height difference from the outside to the inside. It was insane. This should be the greatest meet in the history of Keeneland. Trainers love it, owners love it and jocks love it.

Really? I took Butterface out for a 4 furlong work on Sunday morning. There was a strong headwind in our face but we still went a strong 47 and change. She was chomping on the bit and on the muscle. I like the surface so much I am giving serious thought to moving my tack down there. I am so proud of her, she is such a hard knocker, game old campaigner.

The Chocolate Chip cookies Gander's wife made while I was there last month didn't help either.
LOL...poor Timmy turned his back for a few seconds and *poof*....they were gone:D :D |
Well I sure won't be betting anything but grass there.
The results at Turfway on Saturday just confirm that poly is just about impossible to bet. Ball Four is obviously a specialist on "poly" but I don't know anyone who would bet 50 cents on him against the field he just beat on dirt. And the juvenile stakes were pretty comical as well as far as outcomes. Reigning Court? You have to be kidding me. And the older filly and mare stakes was comical as well. I didn't bet a penny on that card, and my friends who did were home crying and broke after it was over. That card alone was a pretty good advertisement for why not to wager on Polytrack. Keeneland won't get a dime from me on anything but grass races. |
Bingo!
I was starting to think I was wrong about the Poly and then took one look at the entries and results from KY Cup Day and knew that I was right all along. Those results make no sense and Keeneland will be a blender this Meet... |

How about Flints horse in the juvy fillies who couldn't even go 5 furlongs before and then crushes them going two turns? As far as Ghetto goes, I mean lets be honest, a horse like that breaking from the outside is hard to even fathom. And check out the chart calls that day, 3 times, and this is RARE for a chartcaller to say, the chart said lost footing next to the horses running line. Many horses simply can't grab it. Wagering on races conducted over poly is a fools errand. Ball Four? I mean, please. I can see how he could be played as a poly specialist in that race but no way would he even hit the board if the race was on dirt. I'll let others play Keeneland, no thanks for me. I have zero interest in playing a surface in which Beautiful Bets can beat a field like that going two turns. |
Ball Four would have never won had Premium Tap not almost fallen down. He would have probably run 2nd in light of that stupid ride by Leparoux on Perfect Drift. So I dont blame Ball Four winning on the polycrap, rather the dumb race riding by two guys who are supposed to be great jockeys (Leparoux and Desormeaux).

Are you boycotting because of the poly? Turfway Park player? Just wondering . . . fought with it last fall and through the winter at Turfway and finally ended up profitable. This revised poly is better . . . should be better to play than the old stuff. |
Sorry guys I can't Complain About the Poly and Handicapping I had a $10 Exacta in the Juvenille and a $10 exacta in the Juvenille Fillies. I had Keyed both horse that ran 2nd in both races I had boxed them with several horses in each race.
I am not a huge bettor but I will step up and make a big play on occassion Especially if its horse I had something to do with. And I will continue that even if its at Keeneland. I have no trouble learning to adapt to betting horses on the Polytrack. |
if you truly consider yourself a fan of this game then you havent experienced the full purity of it until youve been to keeneland for live racing, the atmosphere is absolutely undescribable!!!!!!

I'm a New Yorker, and I've been to Keeneland about sixty times, and I love it. I understand the complaints people have, and it is tough on a crowded or rainy/cold day, but I just love it there. Sorry, but there are too few racetracks left that are alive...and Keeneland is one of them.
I also love Lexington. I love going to the horse farms, I love driving around the area, and I love going to the bars at night. I wish the food didn't suck and I wish the bars stayed open til 4am, but you can't have everything....unless you live in NYC. |
