If you have a minute could you please explain the whole Turkish situation with The Apache?

I was looking at the SA site and am not understanding why they won't let him compete at Veliefendi just because he had the vaccine.

Figured if anyone here knew it would be you. Thanks.

(Can't wait for Million day).

Kasept 08-13-2013 05:47 PM

Optimizer not going in Million (Expect 13); Harrods Creek & Cavalero pass on St. Leger (Now 8)

Basically, Turkey has said anyone vaccinated against African Horse Sickness is not permitted to race in their country. Kinda bogus as they allowed Musir to do it a few years back, but no one seemed to notice cause he was an Aussie-bred, not SAF.

African Horse Sickness is the result of the current export quarantine in SAF which requires horses to do three weeks in Cape Town, then three months at a 1/4-mile oval in Mauritius, before exporting to the EU for a month, then on to a final destination. It's five months of limited training if you send a horse out of SAF to continue its career elsewhere.

Think it's possible he ends up in the Woodbine Mile, now, especially as Wise Dan is likely to pass it.

Thank you very much. I couldn't find an explanation so appreciate it and yes, that would be nice to see him go for the Woodbine Mile.

I don't know if I have seen the Secretariat ever be a better betting race.

One of the stronger Million Cards I have seen (stakes-wise)

booner 08-15-2013 10:43 AM

I glanced at the races as I printed them last night. Can't wait to dig deeper. This is going to be one fun card to handicap.

Wish I had left races 3,4 and 5 out, or at least they had them listed them as the first three races of the day?

Nonetheless it's one of the deepest million cards I can remember and agree this will be awesome sorting out.

Even the good cuts of beef have a little fat on them sometimes.... ;)

Scav 08-16-2013 07:45 PM

Dark Cove is scratched.

my miss storm cat 08-17-2013 01:25 PM

Good luck to Rahystrada and to his connections. :)

(I do love The Apache, BUT...) I think Little Mike wins this. I will, however, put my favorite old man in the top spot as well.

Sightseek 08-17-2013 04:39 PM

Already a huge day for the Ramseys!

Sightseek 08-17-2013 05:27 PM

The telecast on WGN is really enjoyable.

Sightseek 08-17-2013 05:54 PM

Ugh, The Apache held on, but what a race!

Hunter's Light had no where to run and then nearly went to his nose.

Sightseek 08-17-2013 06:01 PM

DQ...

thoughts?

mclem0822 08-17-2013 06:07 PM

I need another look at it, but from what I can see The Apache did come over twice. I think it was good call.

10 pnt move up 08-17-2013 06:22 PM

Good call, and I bet the DQ'd horse, he clearly fouled him while tiring late.

I thought it was fair too. I have a friend who went on a rampage when The Apache was taken down.

Round Pen 08-17-2013 09:11 PM

I tell you who needs to be fined here is the Arlington Stewards for not immediately putting up the inquiry sign. What were they thinking or not thinking.

I assumed some of that was the left handed whip. I saw something from the side, but I wasn't sure right away what had caused Real Solution to end up slipping back a bit. It looked like he was gonna go by at first. When they ran the head on, it was a 'ooooh, yup, DQ.' It wasn't just bumping, it was The Apache deciding that the middle of the track was really where all the cool kids trying to avoid the whip were going.

RockHardTen1985 08-18-2013 12:44 AM

Makes POE look even better. He re broke and ran away from Real Solution last time.

Optimizer finished second in that race and then finished a weakened 5th in the Man O War. I believe Real Solution would have beat POE in the Manhattan if it weren't for the yielding surface.

Calzone Lord 08-18-2013 01:44 AM

Real Solution is a very nice horse, but he's no Point of Entry.

miraja2 08-18-2013 07:14 AM

Has one sire's progeny ever won three G1 races on the same day before Kitten's Joy did it yesterday?

it's painful when he's on your ticket, but it was the right call.

wonder if this means little mike won't be in a potential match race after all..

South Beach Luv 08-18-2013 09:34 AM

Ran through the pics from yesterday and handpicked a few, I took the Million race shot as my height was an advantage in the crowd, my better half took the rest.

Dank

The Apache

Doubt anyone was happier than him yesterday

The Apache is one pretty pony!

Scav 08-19-2013 07:44 AM

Pretty interesting to see SAF connections agreeing with the DQ.

IMO, if the race was held in Europe, he would have not been taken down, but here, it was almost an automatic.

http://www.drf.com/news/arlington-mi...ication-apache

The screen excuse is laughable though.

When I read the screen comment from the jockey I was like "why would you keep hitting him left-handed then?" Sporting comments from DeKock. Fantastic race, though the Beverly D. was probably my favorite of the day.

To bad the jock didn't lose his whip earlier!
