The whole f.uckin world/society is going down in flames quickly.
I pray for the familes affected. |
just saw it could be two gunmen, with one still at large. just awful.
|
Can't even send your kids to school without worrying. This is just awful.
|
and now they're saying at least 27 dead. jesus.

Children and the gunman are among those killed.
NEWTOWN, Conn. — Some children were among at least 27 people killed in a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., on Friday, according to the Associated Press and Reuters. The total number of victims is unclear, but Reuters reports that 27 are dead, while NBC News is reporting that at least 20 children at the school were shot. The gunman also is among the dead, and, according to an ABC affiliate, is believed to be a parent of one of the students. Many of the shootings took place in a kindergarten classroom, a local newspaper reported. An official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still under way told the Associated Press the gunman apparently had two guns. The school district remains on lockdown as police investigate the shootings. There are unconfirmed reports of two shooters, according to the paper. |
Definition of tragedy. I haven't shed a tear in over 5 years, but today that ended. Can't even fathom what the families are going through. Absolutely stomach turning event.
|
I think is the most heinous crime in my lifetime. Targeting children including your own. There is no words, thoughts or prayers that I could utter that would begin to make those victimized begin to heal.
|
An example of pure evil. Nauseating, literally.
Reportedly one of the gunmen is still at large. |
Both horrifying and incredible. The carnage goes on. They kill us in our malls, and places of worship, and schools. We have more luck protecting ourselves from al quada than from the legion of home grown crazies among us. God give these families strength. I can only imagine what they must be going through.

A teacher's son clad in black and carrying two handguns rampaged through a Connecticut elementary school Friday, killing 18 small children and seven adults, including his mother, in the nation’s second-worst school massacre, law enforcement officials said.
The gunman, identified as Ryan Lanza, 24, was also found dead at the scene, a federal law enforcement official said. Lanza's mother is a kindergarten teacher at the Newtown school, and it's inside that classroom where most of the casualties took place, according to WNBC's Jonathan Dienst. |

Don't read the comments if you still have any faith in humanity. |

This is just horrible. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this terrible tragedy.

4:41 p.m.: Federal law enforcement sources now say Connecticut school shooting gunman was Adam Lanza, 20, and not his brother Ryan Lanza, 24, as earlier reported. Adam was found dead in the school along with his mother, a kindergarten teacher there. |

More confusion. Listening to CNN a minute ago. They said Mom not in the school. Found her body in her home in town, Brother taken into custody. Might be just to see what he knows?

Ind. man with 47 guns arrested after school threat 51 min ago
0emailVon I. Meyer allegedly threatened to set his wife on fire before saying he would 'kill as many people as he could' at a nearby elementary school. CEDAR LAKE, Ind. — Authorities say an Indiana man who had 47 guns and ammunition in his home has been arrested after allegedly threatening to kill people at an elementary school near his home. Cedar Lake police were called to the home of 60-year-old Von I. Meyer early Friday after he allegedly threatened to set his wife on fire. A police statement says Meyer also said he would enter Jane Ball Elementary School and "kill as many people as he could." Authorities found 47 guns and ammunition worth over $100,000. Prosecutors filed felony intimidation charges against Meyer on Saturday, one day after the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. He is being held without bond. Cedar Lake is about 45 miles southeast of Chicago. |

Should be some flag on gun purchases and any person accumulating say over a dozen weapons should be investigated...yeah, fat chance..gestapo tactics...know you are a gun owner but would wager not 47.. Maybe we are not far from this... ![]() |
yeah, i have a fraction of that. not sure why people would want that many....
i never intended to have as many as we've got here! won several, inherited a few. but they're different guns/calibres with different uses. muzzleloaders, rifles, shotguns of different sizes. he uses a 12 gauge, i use a 20. a turkey gun...a .410/.22 over under that belonged to his granddad. they're tools for a variety of uses. it's just a shame that, as usual, a few loonies try to ruin things for everyone else. |
Dozen years ago i inherited a AK47 and 357magnum, the ak was used for target practice by a family member, the 357 for home protection..sat in my closet till couple years ago and sold them to local gun store...think i got 250 for both..last year sold my 22 rifle with scope and boxes of ammo...60 bucks...Now all i have is a blowdart gun and 6 darts..:)..Killed a snake once with it..:tro: If i have an intruder i'm screwed, i'll try to give him my wife.

As far as "need" for any purchase of any item, it doesn't apply. Why would Jay Leno need as many cars as he has? He can afford them, so it's his business. |

heard part of obama's speech last night. so, how do we proceed? no one wants another of these mass killings to occur, so how do we prevent them? can we? |

I think it should be a lot harder for people to obtain guns. I know what the 2nd amendment says, but maybe we need to look into this more. Clearly, this monster had serious issues. His mother was a doomsday prepper so I think we can assume she was pretty nutty as well. How was she able to obtain the kind of weapons she did, and why did she think it was a good idea to teach her clearly troubled son how to shoot? |

The challenge is finding out if there is anything we can do, what should be done, while not taking freedoms away from the 99.999% of law-abiding citizens in this country. Some have suggested stationing police at the schools - though not necessarily on open patrol. For instance, who was monitoring the cameras at Sandy Hook? If it was a cop, that guy wouldn't have gotten to far in the school - the cop is already on site and ready to respond. Much like the guys at NORAD on duty, without a missile launch it'd be a pretty boring job, but somebody needs to be there if the worst happens. The really big thing is we have (thank God) a pretty free society. Unfortunately that means that criminals will always have the initiative. Outside of totalitarianism based on 24/7 surveillance, I don't know how you change that. The criminal is the one who decides when and how to initiate any crime. |

an interesting article about violence in the united states over the decades. |

Do you mean all semi-automatic weapons or specifically semi-automatic rifles with a high firing rate? The reason I ask is that technically every firearm made today, except for revolvers, are semi-automatic, including the majority of 9mm handguns, and any handgun that has a magazine in the handle. |

as for the school...i have to think all schools must do something in regards to having all access blocked during the day. in a former job, i had to go into schools. i'd say i went into a variety of schools dozens of times, and not once did anyone ever question why i was there. that needs to change. they said lanza broke a window to gain access to the school. i think all admins need to take a look at their buildings and do what's needed to bar access to every person who might want to get in and do harm. businesses are taking more steps every day, whether it's key pads on doors, gates, cameras, etc. but yeah, we don't have the capacity to stop every thing that could possibly happen...and that is what frustrates people the most. life is random, evil is as well. hopefully more people will be more willing to step up and say 'hey, this guy needs help'. |

i think all private sales of guns should be halted, immediately.

But yeah, having access into schools should be something to look at. But then when you look at the movie theatre shooting and the mall shootings...obviously that doesn't work. Stricter gun control laws would though. No reason for anyone not in the military to have access to some of these weapons, IMO. |

If the goal is really to make laws in response to this incident, that doesn't fit. |
