Another nice NY bred
Seems as if NY breds have had quite a run with colts who turn into graded stakes winners at age two or three the past few years.
2002- The Ny bred Funny Cide wins a nice two year old Ny bred stakes race, goes on to win 3 grade ones 2003- Friends Lake wins a ny bred two year old stakes race and goes on to win the grade one Florida Derby. 2005- Sharp Humor wins Ny bred stakes races, at age three wins the Swale and gets beaten a neck in the Florida derby to Barbaro. I'd have to say that Imanumbersguy has a very good shot to join these ny bred two year olds who went on to big things. In yesterday's Bertram Bongard Stakes, off just two weeks rest after breaking his maiden at Delaware agaisnt open company, he won the Bongard with alarming ease and authority. The fact that he did off two weeks rest of just his first start makes it even more impressive. He looked very good doing it and even though his sire is a sprint sire primarily, his running style(my very favorite, lope with speed and then hit them with a burst) and stride indicates he will go at least one mile and most likely farther. I'd expect him to go in the NY bred showcase Day at belmont in the two year old one mile race and then perhaps try a race like the Remsen before heading to Oaklawn Park for the winter with Tim Ritchey. Watch this replay if you haven't seen the race yet. It was a NY bred race so it slipped through the cracks as far as media coverage has gone. This is a VERY nice two year old. |

I haven't seen the race yet, but I agree, 'numbersguy' looks real nice. I like L-dog's Bad Boy Rising too. He could have a nice racing career too. |

So he watched it on tv. He called me when it was over and he said well what do you think? I said there is good news and bad news. I said the bad news was that i doubted BBR could ever beat the winner in a race. I said the good news was that perhaps the winner had bigger fish to fry and may pass the next NY bred race and that BBR was easily 2nd. BBR could wind up the favorite on NY bred showcase day in the mile 2YO race if Ritchey decides to take an open company shot elsewhere. |

that's what I was thinking.. BBR could have a lot of success if he stays in the NY bred races.. |

After that I suggested to him that it might be a nice time to scratch the grass itch. Hes a Freud, and they really move up on the grass. He could try and open company grass race to see how he likes it. Lans likes to take a big shot once in a while but for the most part hes a pretty rational owner who likes to run his horses where they can win and where they belong based on their ability and current form. |
That horse "I'm a Numbers guy" was simply awesome yesterday. Under a hand ride and was moving like a horse with a real nice future. Landson's horse had a nice finish to get the runner up spot over a staggering Baxter. I was disappointed with Violette's and Jerken's horses, both of whom I thought had a legit chance in here. Nice horse Ritchey has.

oracle said the same thing about Naughty Nyer and galloping grocer
|
Naughty NY'er has turned out to be a nice horse. He didnt belong in the Woodward but his last 2 wins were very impressive. How can you knock him?
Galloping Grocer was mismanaged a bit. |

Of course when I said Commentator was gonna be a graded stakes horse Seattle's actual quote was that all he could ever win was NY bred races. All he did was win the Whitney. Stick to computers Seattle. |

he only won the Whitney because of Gary Stevens |

Quite impressive off of two weeks rest. Looks like Tim has another monster in his stable.
Impressive as he was, top honors for the day go to Five Star Daydream. Dominated despite being behind a slow pace. Looks like this filly could make some noise down the road. |

Freud is indeed a nice one...#1 freshman sire. For those that haven't seen his pedigree or what he looks like.... http://laklandnorth.com/images/lakla...umbsize=_small |

Smart move by Lakland to get Giant's Causeway's brother into NY. I wonder how long until someone stands a son of Fupeg? (even if he is my least favorite sire! lol) |
here's the replay http://www.racereplays.com/nybreds/i...cename=sunday3
of course NY has Fleet Indian, Behaving Badly, J'Ray, among others so we're fielding some exciting runners. |

Keep your eyes out for a nybred named Gimme Credit...5 wins in 5 starts. |

Gimme Credit sin't 5 for 5 but he is 5 for his last 5. He's a nice horse. He won againstsome nice (open company) horses at the Spa.
Don't forget Commentator and Sharp Humor. |
Love the City Zips
Gotta Love those City Zips.
Seems like every other day there is a winning City Zip 2YO or 3YO at the NYRA tracks.... City Zip was moved to Lanes End after one year in NY State and his stud fee was raised from $7500 to $15000. One would think that breeders will start to send better mares to him going forward given his record over the past couple of years. Then again, i am slightly prejudiced. My first horse ever is by City Zip and should be hitting the track in about 2 months. Can't wait..... and keeping my fingers crossed. And, by the way City Zips are winning at an amazing 25% of total starts on the turf.... PSH:) |
Congrats to Tim Ritchey and company, but let's not get carried away. Tim will tell you himself that it is a whole different ball game versus open company. Tim will definitely make the right decisions when it comes up to where I'm a Number Guy races next and in the future. I know there are plenty of New York supporters on this forum that wish that New York Breds can be competitive with open company, but the numbers don't match up. They are simply behind the proverbial eight ball.
The avg foals around the country per year: Kentucky - 8,500 Florida - 4,500 California - 3,500 New York - 2,000 I do have to admit that New York breds are better than California breds overall. It would be a much fair challenge to have NY vs. Cali state bred races than FL vs Cali in the Sunshine Millions. |
