Thrilled to see this thread! Yea it is time!!!:D
Humiliating to know the name of a single horse in this race but can't wait to see it anyway and also for news of the usual suspects (I would think you know my favorites by now so whenever you see their names please.....)! Happy birthday, kids! Ed how are you horses doing and why can I always think of Pinzaara but not the name of the other (soory!). |
Poor Veyron. Hope his injury isn't too serious.
http://www.hawkesbaytoday.co.nz/news...eturn/1488028/ Have you heard anything? You know what I don't get? How many G1s has he won and why does he never get any international press? Ridiculous. I see The Hombre is entered... http://www.nzracing.co.nz/Meetings/Meeting.aspx/40570 Hooray! |
Veyron's injury doesn't sound serious. He'll be back racing in time for the big ones around Christmas. He's won four G1s now! He's beaten horses like Mufhasa and Jimmy. Amazingly underrated horse.
Art Beat wins the Winter Cup! Innovation's winning streak came to an end, but she flew and got 2nd. My horses are all having a rest for the winter. :) |
Great Jimmy Choux video from Rich Hill Stud:

Loved it! Thanks for posting it... I never would have seen it otherwise.
Good luck to The Hombre tomorrow (well, today). How long till Hastings starts? Come on race 3! :D |
Race 3 is about 90 min away now. :)
|
Good Lord this 90 minutes has felt like 13 hours so far!
|
Well gee it's just the beginning of the season so maybe he needs to get going a little.

Yep, he'll be much better and fitter next time. And the track is really wet there today, which he hates. Not to mention the big weight he had to carry. He shouldn't lose any fans for that effort today.
|
Geez ed how close or far is Mount Tongariro and is everyone okay?
|
It's about a 4hr drive away. It sounds like everyone's fine at the moment - no damage, luckily!
Experts are saying the mountain should calm down now. Hope they're right! I have to drive right past it to get to the G1 Spring Classic at Hastings in October. |
Nice story. :)

Potentially one of the best 3yos in the country. |
Ooooh nice field! Good luck to Shez Sinsational (winnah), Fritzy (be still my heart) and Smoulder who i hope has a fine season!
Oh yeah and go, Pu$sy Willow! |
Fleur De Lune wins! Amazing efforts by Fritzy Boy and Xanadu.
Shez Sinsational seemed to struggle in the wet ground, and the distance was way short of her best. She'll do better next time! And a 3yo filly called Hollywood Angel was insanely impressive in the maiden race just after the Foxbridge. |
Haven't watched replays yet but thanks for results and hooray for Fritzy (well all of them, of course). :D

The field for the G1 Challenge Stakes:

Oh my God are you kidding, that's the final field?
How on earth do you even bet these things with SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many fantastic horses? I mean it I have no idea how you guys over there deal with this kind of thing. My shortened list of horses to wish luck to is now down to 9 (and you know I am not kidding) so I won't even bother... :D I'd love to know 1. the odds and 2. if you have any idea why Guiseppina keeps jumping out at me here (yes ed I do expect you to read my subconscious thoughts now)! :p In my heart of hearts I do hope it's Mufhasa but will be thrilled for who(m?)ever wins. :) |
Odds:
Mufhasa $4.60f Justanexcuse $26 Fritzy Boy $15 Green Supreme $15 I Am Sam $41 The Hombre $26 He's Remarkable $13 Time Keeper $61 Khemosabi $61 Ocean Park $5.60 Fleur de Lune $6.50 Guiseppina $11 Art Beat $31 No Excuse Maggie $31 Innovation $26 Xanadu $9 Baby Guinness $31 Smoulder $31 Civics Rock $101 Torino SCR I like Guiseppina too, except she's never won on a track rated worse than good. It's not going to be too bad here, but it is going to be a rain-affected track. So that's the only question I have over her. One other thing worth mentioning is it's Fritzy Boy's FIFTH time in this race! 2008: 1st 2009: 9th 2010: 3rd 2011: 5th 2012: ? |
Kate wins the first at Hastings! A talented 3yo filly by St Reims (2002 NZ Derby winner). She's being set for the VRC Oaks at Flemington.
|
Great racing action down there today. So good to see the spring sunshine. 75 minutes till the G1!

PLEASE post results as soon as you can!!!!!:) |
OCEAN PARK
Xanadu Justanexcuse (?!) Mufhasa (after a brutal speed duel with Khemosabi, who dropped out to last) Guiseppina Time Keeper Ocean Park now heads to Australia for the Underwood, then Caulfield Cup and/or Cox Plate. He's owned in Hong Kong, so he'll end up there in the not-too-distant future. |
Good for him! Wish it had been Mufhasa but very happy all the same and can't wait for full results. :)
Wasn't he scratched right before some big race last season or am I thinking of someone else? Could have sworn... Anyway I hope everyone made it home safe and can't wait for the replay. Thanks for the fast results!!!!! When is the next big race and who is pointed? |
You're right - he was scratched from both the NZ Derby and Australian Derby the day before both of those races last season! So it's great that his luck turned around today.
His mother, Sayyida, was a hugely talented filly who looked like a real rising star. But then she broke her leg in the G2 Avondale Guineas. They were able to save her life, and one of her first foals was Ocean Park. :) We have a few nice stakes races in the next couple of weeks, but the next really big race is the G1 Windsor Park Plate, back at Hastings on Sep 22. Early nominations for that one: http://www.nzracing.co.nz/Meetings/Meeting.aspx/40676 |
Thanks ed and of course I hadn't heard about him mom so thank you for the story and yeah the Derby was the race I was thinking of.
So happy the season is starting. Some of the best horses in the world... too bad they never show any of it here. Maybe some day. :) |
|
Really good performance. And Shaune Ritchie says she wasn't fully fit for this race and should get better.
|
SACRED FALLS!
![]() Whoa, this is a scary good colt. 3 for 3 now, and in amazing style. He's the favourite for the 2000 Guineas now. |
I logged onto NZ Racing to see the replay but no matter what I do when I get to results for that race it's the only one without the little camera... is there not a replay for that race for some reason? Do you get the same thing?
I want to see it and there seems to be a replay for every other race... |
Oh, you're right! I'll send them a message. Hopefully they'll put it up soon!
|
Seems to be there now. :)
|
Thank you that was awesome! Thank you for letting them know and yeah he seems really really good.
Lots of bumping going on! Who is the grey with the white blaze... Charlie Farley (Farlie?)? So cute. :D Thanks ed, that was a lot of fun to see and I expect you're right and we'll be seeing a lot more of this one! |

Who do you like in the Gold Trail, ed? I am just not too familiar with most of the field I'm embarrassed to say. This one? Oh my God what a great field. It's surreal. :) Quote:
|
I really like Pure Elegance in the Gold Trail. She's got a great pedigree (very close relative to Ethereal, Darci Brahma and Burgundy), and she won her only start so far by five. But Fix and Rollout The Carpet were good in strong races last year too.
Wow, this is a surprise: http://www.theinformant.co.nz/racing...-Paeroa-trials |
Pure Elegance wins the Gold Trail! VERY good filly.
|
TEN G1S!
Speechless. He's phenomenal. |
