I always enjoy the hoops blogs. Thanks Joey.

Do you think South Florida is a lock for the NIT (based on their current record and similar projection) or do they need to do more?

Yes. Considering the weakness of the bubble, I wouldn't count them out of the BD either. There's a path to 11-7 in the Big East, and if they could pair that with at least one win at the Garden, they'd have a decent case.

Thanks Joey.

I'd rather they got in the NIT and were able to make a bit of a run to gain some tournament experience, than to make the BD and end up a one and done.

No CU or CSU? I was thinking both look like they will be in.

Colorado isn't getting an at-large. Best nonconference win came by two points over RPI No. 114 Georgia and they've yet to beat a top 50 opponent. If they beat both Cal and Oregon, then maybe things change a little, but for now, they're easily an NIT team.

As I wrote about Colorado State:

Quote:

Speaking of the Rams, they got that win they had to have, but I don't think they've locked up a bid just yet. They're 2-4 vs. the RPI top 50 and 6-6 vs. the top 100, but don't have real quality in the nonconference, have three losses outside the top 100 and are still just 6-5 in league. They likely need to win one of the next two (at San Diego State on Saturday, vs. UNLV 2/29) to feel comfortable heading into the MWC tourney.

Clip-Clop 02-22-2012 02:20 PM

Sorry, I skimmed right past the CSU bit. Hoping to see both make it in, always makes things fun around here when people have someone to root for.
Nice work on this, very enjoyable to read.

Great research! Very informative.

I support Coach Grant but hope Tony Mitchell and Jamychal Green are truly done and not allowed back. They are both real dumb yet talented. You can't fix stupid so let them begin their lives of crime like respectable wannabe thugs.

Green is probably playing tonight I hear. Mitchell is gone for the season.

Coach Pants 02-23-2012 09:00 AM

I don't see the point in bringing Green back. Sure he'll help if his head's on straight but he's a senior that has had nothing but attitude problems since he's been on campus. Time for him to go.

ateamstupid 02-23-2012 09:03 AM

They're on the bubble, Grant is likely under pressure to make the Tournament and Green has been their most important player this season. I don't know enough about the circumstances to say for sure, but my guess is it's not entirely Grant's decision.

Coach Pants 02-23-2012 09:08 AM

From what I've read Grant is highly respected by the administration from top to bottom. There are a few fans who are disgruntled but they wouldn't be happy if Bama was #1.

ninetoone 02-23-2012 07:33 PM

No love for the CAA? Drexel, Mason, and VCU are all good teams this year...

the administration is Very high on Coach Grant. the thing the admins. like the most, it's Coach Grant"s way or get out.
there are a couple knuckleheads on this team that he's lost and i won't be surprised if he makes every effort at seasons end to make them move on.
if he can get Bama in the dance every other year, i think the fans will take it.

It's a down year for the league and unlike most years, nobody in the conference really picked up quality nonconference wins. I'd be shocked if they got multiple bids. VCU and especially Drexel are both good though.

I say they definitely get 2 and maybe 3 again...

Good game last night. We have a very underrated freshman class. Green needs to watch another game or two...aww heck just tell him good luck and shake his hand. :D

I've just read really vague rumors from some credible sources. It's bad. So bad that most that know the info are shocked they weren't kicked off the team immediately.

Bama as a 7 seed. I like it. Would love for them to advance to the 2nd round and face Ohio State. That team is vulnerable. Sullinger is moving like a 70 year old.

Calzone Lord 03-05-2012 05:54 PM

I've watched eight or nine games now this season ... the most impressive team I've seen is certainly Marquette.

The Lennox Lewis looking dude can really play.

They impressed me more than NC, Kentucky (I saw them play Vandy on the road) and Kansas did.

Vandy would have easily beat Kentucky if they settled for outside shots instead of trying to will it inside where that friggen beast that was blocking and rebounding everything was.

Not a college hoops maven, and won't be betting, but I think Florida is a sure bet-against in the first round. Gators are "rounding out of form."

Agreed there. They look gassed.

Kentucky is significantly better than anyone else in the country.

Vandy beat Kentucky today. They must match-up right for them.

I said Marquette was the best team I've seen...but I also watched them play Louisville and the pressure D by Louisville made Marquette turn the ball over like crazy and they rushed up a lot of high percentage shots that didn't go.

It's weird because Marquette isn't a very big team and you think they'd handle a press D...but they couldn't.

I LOVE Marquette against any team that lets them control the pace when they have the ball on offense. They fucl<ed up over and over against pressure.

I love the way Marquette plays defense. They are relentless.

Detroit Titans are the small school that impressed me most. They freaking wiped the floor with Valpo in Valpo ... and Valpo was 3-0 against Butler this year.

Butler sucked this season. Detroit is going to get blown off the court by Kansas.

horseofcourse 03-12-2012 08:49 AM

I really like Montana over Wisconsin. I follow Big Sky basketball probably way too close but I live out here and go to lots of games locally. Montana is one of the best Big Sky teams I've seen in awhile. Main issue is no depth at all. Pretty much go with 5 guys, but play really good defense, and can really, really shoot the 3. 4 of 5 starters over 43 percent and worst is at 37 percent, Will Cherry, who is by far the best player and a really good point guard. Destroyed Weber State last two times and their great future NBA guard Damian Lillard. HIstorically Big Sky not likely to win a game. Montana won a first rounder over Nevada a few years ago and WEber in the late 90s beat Georgetown so historically a pretty lame first round pick, but I think this team is different.

They just outscored Valpo by 25 points in the 2nd half in Valpo to take a championship game.

I've only seen both Detroit and Kansas play once ... but Detroit might have a better back-court. If they don't get killed inside by the ChokeHawks, they'll certainly keep the margin single digits.

The Horizon sucked this year. That's the bottom line. Tyshawn Taylor is better than any guard Detroit has and they have nobody to guard Robinson or Withey.

Ok. Why is Belmont only getting 3.5 against Georgetown?

Because they're really good, underseeded and far more Tournament tested than Georgetown. I'm not dashing to take only 3.5 points with them, but it wouldn't be a major upset (in my eyes) if they win.
