Dice

The 'Don't Pass' bet at the dice table is only a 1.4% takeout. And the Pass bet is like a 1.6% takeout and you can bet 10 times in the back at a 0.00% takeout after the first roll.

If you think about it --- the dice table is a great place to take your girlfriend or wife on a date.

Also... if you're going to bet on something just for the sake of betting on something and getting that action buzz ... why would you play anything else but the dice table? The house edge is laughably low. It's befudding walking around a casino and seeing only two dice tables going -- one at a $5 minimum and another a $10 min ... and yet you see all the other equally mindless games and stupid machines rocking and rolling.

Just like horse racing, people don't want to take the time to learn (or learn to handicap for that matter) how to play. I also think that there is some sort of intimidation factor around that table as well.

The intimidation factor is certainly understandable at a dice table -- I'm not even clear as to what's going on in between rolls... or why the people who work for the casino need to shout "YO!" every time someone rolls an eleven.

It makes for a fun time though -- because you can stand around and make judgements on people by looking at them. I think girls like doing that and they like throwing the dice as well.

If you think the person looks like a Mush or is just wearing Steelers gear -- bet the don't pass and root against them. If not -- limp in with a $5 bet on the dice at like a 1.6% takeout ... and bet $25 or $50 in the back at a 0.00% takeout after a number is up.

I'm horrible with coming up for ideas for dates -- but the dice table was an outstanding one. Good offbeat conversation + slight buzz of low stakes gambling + the house edge is freaking tiny and there is no pressure to bet on every roll or every shooter.

There is nothing like being on a hot crap table. It's freakin awesome. It literally draws the entire casino to it.

I second that. It has happened to me a few times. It's pretty orgasmic.

Vegas Vets are found everywhere in today's society;they come in all shapes and sizes...differing views of the world around them...oddly dressed with various hat sizes..male/female, introvert/extrovert,sanitary worker/lawyer,gay/not gay.

One thing's for sure.

And I ain't gonna say it.

You want excitement playing craps, try a hard way parlay.
Hickory dickory dock, ooooh!

rpncaine 12-08-2011 03:17 PM

If there is a craps table...I'm there! I guess it's a good thing that Indy Downs (10 minutes from my house) is a RACINO and they only have the electronic version as I would probably be divorced by now if thye had the real thing.
I love to play the "don'ts". If I can get on the 4 or 10 and then load up with a cover bet on the hard way I'm set.

Once missed out on getting our bags out for the porters at the end of a cruise because I was on a smokin hot craps table for several hours. Me and the wife had to carry all of our bags off the boat and thru the New Orleans terminal...almost had a heart attack, but I won over 2K and had the time of my gambling life. Swear to god this lady rolled 11 or 12 six times in a row and the place was going NUTS!

Craps is the bomb and it doesn't take that long to figure it out. Just get on a slow table and talk up a dealer and they will tell you what you need to know. Best action game in the world!

Craps is a great game, and as you point out, an incredibly safe bet on a few plays. Once you learn the game, you'll be utterly amazed by the number of stupid bets the average player insists on making roll after roll even when the odds are stacked so heavily in the house's favor. Too many players have no clue how to play. Because the game is fast and exciting, almost any gambler will be drawn to it, if they don't allow themselves to be intimidated by their lack of knowledge of the rules. Just play the pass line for your first few visits, learn the game by watching, then pound it harder when you get your confidence and experience.

As far as a great date opportunity, if the gypsy you're with doesn't like craps, dump her and find one that does.

Pass line+Odds followed by Come bet plus Odds. That is all there is to it. People are very nervous about it though while the rubes throw in their sucker bets after each roll.
As far as the ladies go, it is a great place to enjoy someones company. Playing the way I play you are never going to get hurt and more often than not (about 70%) you will leave up. My wife loves it, the women I have met in Vegas that never payed all really love it. Great times and bar none the best thing in any casino. Only thing for me besides the books.

clyde 12-08-2011 04:25 PM

And this is why I did'un have to say it.

"Mommy!Mommy!I got an A in craps!!"

Of course, every Vegas Vet is fox smart and always wins...no one ever loses money.

~30% loss rate. Always lose it all. "Winning" for me means playing for two to four hours and leaving with more money than I show up with. Very rarely is it an 'A' performance.

I could play the horses every day, but I just can't get into any other form of gambling.

I must be a bad date.

Why is that statement questionable to you?

Let's say your whole goal is to win $50 to pay for dinner and you have $350 to start with.

If you bet the Pass or Don't Pass -- you have a 49.3% chance of winning.

So -- Bet $50 - if you lose Bet $100 -- if you lose bet $200.

Your chances of losing 3 straight are just 13.03%

Your chances of winning without losing 3 straight are 86.97%.

So... 86.97% of the time you will achieve your goal of winning $50. 13% of the time... you will be exposed as an idiot.

Thus, you can win $50 87% and they still have an edge on you.

Take you woman to the $5 crap table Clyde.

I'd say an outcome to a roll happens about once every 2-minutes.

So -- you'll be betting $150 an hour in handle over the course of 30 rolls ... the house edge is 1.4% so they will get you for $2.10 if the law of AVG's work out.

Think about that ... an hour date that costs just $2.10. Your girlfriend gets to throw dice and make snap judgements on shady people all the while.

Mix in cheap and sometimes free drinks -- and you're getting over.

Sightseek 12-09-2011 06:40 AM

Do they serve sorbet at the casino?

Well thanks, but somehow it just doesn't send me there. And, believe it or not...I am a Vegas Vet,but every place felt like all the others out there; or any CasinoLand USA.Lots of pretty colors that get killed by the crazy sounds is all it is to me.

I find walking up to a stern faced blackjack dealer much more intimidating. Craps is the only thing I play in a casino.

It very easy to get lost and be intimidated at the crap table, just because the amount of bets that there are. Also the fact that you have to shout out your bets might not work for someone who is the shy type (especially if you have no clue).
As far as Blackjack goes, it's not the dealer you have to worry about, it's the other players. If you do something stupid, that's who you are going to hear it from.

If you play max odds you do not need to do the increase at double rate, the payout odds will take care of the losses and the come pays take care of the craps.
My goal is to play, play and enjoy myself. Sometimes things go well but for the most part my goal is to leave with a few bucks and a few cocktails on the house (casinos have started getting proper beers from Colorado now). The way I play facilitates that, unless you go and try or have (but if you have you would not be questioning)it exactly as I do you should not question my success. I have not made myself rich by playing craps, but I have eaten fairly well in Vegas.
