BBQ stands.. were 6 now 2

No Nyra store in clubhouse, and they are all outsourced now to Centerplate from Kentucky..lot of locals out of summer work as a result you would think...sister has managed several stores for years and is out.

FYI, there never was a NYRA store in the Saratoga clubhouse.

werent there 7 bbq stands? unless Barry got rid of the one by the bottom floor elevator... if true this really sucks.

So a Kentucky vendor is going to hire Kentuckians and ship them across the country for one month of employment?

my brother texted me no more backyard stand for Carolina BBQ this year (which sucks.. thats the one I would work at there, right next to self serve betting machines). dont know about the other six locations.

Does that mean there will be lemonade?

The original post in this thread ignores the truth. How could anyone argue the food options have not improved every year in Saratoga recently? Why would we take a step backwards this year?

I'm sick of this moron's annual stupidity. Nothing was outsourced. O'Brien's (Lemonade/Pretzel) and Howard's (Popcorn/Novelties) type items are going to be merchandised by Centerplate, NYRA's long-time contract feeding operator that replaced Aramark more than 10 years ago. With the addtion of contractor's like Danny Meyer, Centerplate has needed to find alternate revenue to justify their ongoing investments in all 3 facilities -- Saratoga, Aqueduct, Belmont. The concessionaire type business that Jack and Howard operated can help Centerplate generate revenue. The jobs involved with those kinds of stands will be manned by the same kinds of summer employees that have always manned them.

As for Carolina installations, the Backyard area is gone and the Paddock has been re-configured with nothing in the center area anymore. As a result, the Paddock Sausage cart is moving to the end of the Arcade Walk past the jock's room, and there is a 2nd Clubhouse cart added as well. Everything else is the same at Carousel, the Grandstand and Pavillion.

Same place. The Barbecue Cafe across from the Carousel.

Centerplate is actually based in Stamford, CT.

I didnt take his word for it, that's why I put "if true". I also dont know this particular posters background. sucks that the backyard stand is gone, but an added clubhouse cart will help off-set the backyard stand.

I certainly didnt understand his "lost summer jobs" part.

I believe that when the casino opens at Aqueduct, Centerplate will not be a part of the foodservice component.

Really though, as far as using horse names as internent handles, the odds of a poster named "Scat Daddy" posting useful information has to be about as likely as someone who went by, say, Rock Hard Ten. Just as an example.

It's actually fantastic. And their fried chicken is literally the best in the world. You must try it.

It does sound delicious. Especially during hot summer days where barbecue would set your intestines on fire. Decent alternative.

You are right about that. They have a chicken liver appy that i also love.

The chicken salad sandwich and cucumber salad also highly recommended.

And - not to get off topic (much) - but last night I was in the local Hannaford's, looking to buy - donuts. I reached in for a chocolate frosted - yikes, not only was it frosted - two-tone, chocolate and vanilla - it was also... glazed.

Frosted AND glazed. Talk about a gut-busting sugar-bomb!

...So I only bought two.

I guess a better question is if there's anything at Hattie's that ISN'T amazing. (Answer: No!)

Saratoga has the best restaurants for a small city in the entire country IMO.

You might need to get out more.....

You know of a lot of other cities with 30,000 residents that have as many good restaurants as Saratoga Springs?

Wishing Well, Grey Gelding, Cliff's, Black Watch, Chez Pierre, The Wine Bar, Panzas, Brindisis, Forno Bistro, The Stadium Cafe, Hatties... those are just off the top of my head, I can't remember the Mexican joints but they're great too. What city of <25k people can compete with that? You lived there, you probably know the places better than I do.

...and they named a race for Hattie on July 30th. :)

There's been a race for Hattie for many years.

mexican connection is one of my favorite mexican resteraunts in the whole country. though I go to the other one once a week with my uncle. (cant think of the freaking name :zz:)


I'd trade Sperry's for the stadium cafe though in the above list.


this will be two years in a row that I wont be in Saratoga Springs though. I may try to move back to the north east next year, and if I do, I'll try to never miss a meet again!
