Child abuse

I happened to catch the first few minutes of "The View" just now and they were talking about a segment of this morning's "Today" show...they showed the clip, a mother and her eight year old daughter were being interviewed, the daughter is a child beauty queen contest participant. They actually showed pictures of this mother giving her daughter botox injections in her face! The little girl said "it hurts, but I'm getting use to it". When asked why she wanted these injections, the little girl at first said, "I don't really know". The mother then prompted her to say, "Oh yeah, to do away with wrinkles". Why isn't this mother in jail?? How can she come on national TV and brag about this and show pictures of her sticking a needle in her little girl's face?? These child beauty contests are an affront to decency and should be banned, a child that age should be a child, not manipulated by selfish parents into taking on the role of adults!

I agree. Lock the mom up.

It's just as abusive to give medication that is not required as it is to withhold medication that is required - like those fundamentalist nuts always do when their kids need medical intervention and they want to pray over them instead.

Your loss then because it's a serious topic....I wondered when I posted it how some folks would find a way to attempt (as usual) to belittle it and I found out.

First thing, I wasn't belittling the topic. I was belittling the fact that you mentioned the View. I want to know, who really cares what those 4 or 5 yentas have to say about anything? The fact that they even have a forum to discuss things boggles my mind. They are nobody's who somehow ended up with a voice. That's what I was belittling.

As far as the kid goes, I feel like it's not really any of my buisness. Would I do it, or agree with it, no not really. But I have enough on my plate worring about the two little boys at home in Old Bridge right now making sure that they are happy, healthy and taken care of.

So child abuse is none of your concern? As far as the View goes, I'm not exactly a regular viewer but Nancy watches and I caught this segment and it really pissed me off. We spend a lot of time on this forum degrading Muslims for how they treat women/daughters and rightly so but while this isn't the same as their abuses, it is abuse none the same and these are our children being subjected to this insanity, maybe we can do little to change cultures in the third world but we can do something in this country and it begins with public outcry! I'm sure you're a great parent and raising your kids right, but this has nothing to do with that.

When mothers start killing their daughters for dishonoring them in competition then bring up the muslim comparison.

Imagine the View hens discussing that!

How did I compare them? I clearly stated that it's not the same...learn to read!

I wouldn't. But I don't really need to know about your personal life to know you watch The View. It's obvious. If I had to bet I'd say Ellen also.

Back to topic, the mother is disgusting.

Well, the important thing here, your little personal digs aside, is that we agree about this mother. Anderson Cooper mocked her last night on 360, I can only hope that child protective services gets involved...I don't know where she lives and what the laws governing child abuse are in her home state but surely this has to be a violation....

Dahoss 05-13-2011 10:21 AM

So I was right about Ellen?

She's being investigated.

You should have left them (muslims) out of this thread as you are right, it's not the same. Not even remotely close to the same.

Obviously authorities are restricted by the law, one would question the mother's background relative her ability to safely treat her daughter with injections, where she is obtaining the botox, the involvement of a physician in the treatment...these would seem to be some of the key legal questions. Again, the legal statutes regarding child abuse will be key...to me there is no question that this is child abuse, but I cannot speak to the legal issues. The mother stated that mothers of other contestants are doing the same thing...this should be investigated and if true, action should not be limited to this one case.

All the legal BS aside, what do you want to see happen in this case?

I think if we can all just agree that someone, somewhere simply needs to be castrated for this -- which should restore order and balance to the world in the wake of this, we could tidily wrap this thing up and get back to talking about Newt's eighth wife again.

I want to see this little girl protected from obvious abuse by a clueless mother, I am always hesitant to recommend foster care (sometimes placing the child in an even worse situation, not to mention the long term psychological effects), so it comes down in the end to the mother's ability to understand that her role is to protect and nourish this child, not use her as some perverted extension of her own psyche. If the mother remains clueless, then reluctantly I would favor placing the child elsewhere.

Danzig 05-13-2011 06:28 PM

i think anyone who enters their child in a pageant should be subject to a mental eval.
anyone who dresses their 8 year old up like an adult, with enough make up that it would last me for six months should be institutionalized.

but, that's just me. i don't get it, i will never understand it. babies up to 18 year olds, and every age in between....ridiculous.

now, this woman? just thinking about the situation angers me. how did she aquire this? isn't it a controlled substance? shouldn't you have to be licensed? the whole thing is just awful.
