Worst 6K ever spent?

Believe it or not - the owner just spent 6k to make this horse a late triple crown series supplamented nom....

A supposed 500K yearling - who is still owned by his breeder.

Why not just light 120 fifty-dollar bills on fire to see what color the flame makes?

randallscott35 04-02-2011 11:30 PM

Still hope.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-02-2011 11:40 PM

I google'd the owner/breeder ... his wife divorced him and got a $123.6 million settlement.

What a weird friggen horse. Who breeds to the sire Encosta De Lago (huh?) - and buys the horse from themselves for 500K as a yearling - only to nominate them late to the triple crown series off of a 4.5 furlong win at Mountaineer Park?

another hot sat night in erie I see

Coach Pants 04-02-2011 11:46 PM

Probably trying to impress his woman by taking her to the Derby. Usually stupid decisions like this one are made because of some trim.

Perhaps - but he'll need Graded Earnings to get into the Derby field.

Preakness Fever?

Watch the horse show up on the undercard. That should get him at least a couple motorboats.

You do know that Encosta De Lago is one of the most expensive stallions in the world, right?

OTM Al 04-03-2011 06:46 AM

That's a breeding you would see commonly in England or Ireland.

The names of his horses couldn't have tipped you off as to who he is?

Habersham000 04-03-2011 07:24 AM

He is supposed to run in the Illinois Derby

Travis Stone 04-03-2011 07:29 AM

I thought the owner/breeder might have taken him back once Baffert was no longer the trainer, but Fipke owned him from start #1.

No - I figured he just had a mare imported all the way from Australia who was like the Montbrook of Aussie sires.

You like his chances?

Is he supposed to be a rabbit for some other horse?

What am I missing here?

outofthebox 04-03-2011 02:09 PM

I remember when this owner broke into the game by buying a 2million 2yo at the Barrets sale a couple of years ago with Baffert. Cant recall his name, but ran about 6 races in 3 years. He's definately has deep pockets///

The Indomitable DrugS 04-03-2011 02:21 PM

Yeah - Diamond Fury for $2.7 million ... Baffert absolutely took him to the school yard on that one.

A Tactical Cat filly worked faster at both 1f and 2f - than the $2.7 million Sea of Secrets - in two seperate under-tack previews that year.

The Tactical Cat filly ended up being stakes winner Fashion Girl. Diamond Fury was 3-for-17 lifetime and never earned black type. How that horse - sired by Sea of Secrets - ever reached $2.7 million is one of those good stories we'll never know .. but I'm sure someone other than just the seller had a picnick off of that one.

Here's another late supp that is also a total waste of 6k .... but at least this horse has paid for himself.

He obviously wants the turf - and wants an uncontested lead on it - unless they're moving one of the Triple Crown races to the turf ....

Exactly what got that horse bet down to 11/1 for his maiden win?

The Indomitable DrugS 04-03-2011 05:11 PM

Probably was just a soft field for the class level on paper - was also only a 7 horse field instead of a 10 horse field like his prior two races going into that one.

VOL JACK 04-03-2011 09:18 PM

JBA is in the Maker barn now.

Fipke got to the KD once before with Tagg trained Tale of Ekati who finished 4th....so I think you are right...the lust to be there overcomes all else....this horse is nowhere as good as TOE.
