The Pamplemousse Retired

The Pamplemousse, one of the early favorites for the 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), has been retired from racing and will stand in 2011 at Tom and Nancy Clark’s Rancho San Miguel near San Miguel, Calif. His fee is $3,500.

He could have literally been vet scratched in every race he ever ran in.

blackthroatedwind 11-18-2010 08:07 PM

Despite my ( apparent ) overwhelming East Coast bias, I always liked him. He ran some pretty impressive races.

Arletta 11-18-2010 08:09 PM

Was looking forward to his return... :(

Talent we will never get to see.

The Pamplemousse cost the horse I named myself after (smartbid) a chance at the Derby. I still love Pamplemousse anyway:)

You are probably too young to remember Benny from LA Law. Trust me on this, I'm dead on.

I know Hollywood tends to exaggerate to help the story along but
Chuck was never up to Butter Bean and from what I've heard he is even less
like that now.

LOL. I don't know how to do all of this picture posting stuff. Can you post the two side by side?

Uncle Daddy 11-26-2010 11:08 AM

My favorite Pamplemousse memory:

TVG talking head asks the trainer some innane question about his fast early fractions compromising his win chances in future races

Julio Cannani responds thoughtfully: "who cares!"
