Zenyatta Stakes reverting back to Lady's Secret this year

Zenyatta Stakes reverting back to Lady's Secret this year

my miss storm cat 09-01-2010 03:23 PM

I'm a huge fan of hers (and of Rachel, for the record. No either / or for me) but this was just ridiculous in the first place.

I will always call the Distaff and Distaff and the same goes for the Lady's Secret.

It never should have been changed to begin with.

slotdirt 09-01-2010 03:29 PM

They really shouldn't rename historical races like this after horses unless they're dead or have had official retirement ceremonies.

I can see why the Mosses wouldn't have wanted to run Zenyatta in the Zenyatta Stakes though. That would be daft.

alysheba4 09-01-2010 05:55 PM

hope they ask for a "new" race named after their horse......dont fck with the ladys secret.........what was the P.E. before n.y.r.a. changed it?

Merlinsky 09-01-2010 06:07 PM

Just to mess with them, some other track ought to announce they're stealing the Zenyatta name for one of their G1s, then fess up that they're kidding. Seriously it's goofy, what they did so soon after her "retirement." Talk about trigger happy.

They played chicken with the racing gods and bailed.

exactly!

Merlinsky 09-01-2010 06:15 PM

They should call the Ladies Classic "The Race Formerly Known as the Distaff."

hoovesupsideyourhead 09-01-2010 06:46 PM

good, that and getting back to dirt will help sa gain some repect..

my miss storm cat 09-01-2010 06:52 PM

... AND getting back to the BC being one day instead of the ladies day nonsense.

DaTruth 09-01-2010 07:15 PM

Oaklawn ought to rename the Apple Blossom after Zenyatta.

Nah, that's still thinking too small.

Just rename the BC Classic the Zenyatta Classic and carry her to the post on a giant float with a trojan horse figure of Z made entirely out of flowers and seeds like the Rose Parade. Screw it, rename the Rose Parade the "Zenyatta Parade." :p

Renaming racetracks is very popular these days...

Indian Charlie 09-01-2010 11:12 PM

How about on day 1 of the BC having the Ladies Zenyatta Classic and on day 2, having the Zenyatta Classic?

I prefer to just have one day of the World Zenyatta Championships.

Well, yeah, but you can still have both races. Which, by the way, she's won both of.

They should probably wait until she's in foal though to announce the change.

Nah, she'd just end up being the first BC winner to accomplish a victory while in foal.

And risk the undefeated record?

NO way.

lol yes, you've finally found the hole in this totally logical progression. :wf ;) Everything made so much sense until you brought up the record.

GPK 09-02-2010 07:37 AM

Just take a race that is N3L and rename it the Zenyatta Stakes, since that's what most of the plugs she's beating are still eligible for.

alysheba4 09-02-2010 10:14 AM

more zenyatta bashing, didnt that jump the shark about 6 months ago.

slotdirt 09-02-2010 10:37 AM

What jumped the shark first: bashing Zenyatta or Smooth Operator? It's a tough call.

Coach Pants 09-02-2010 10:46 AM

They should keep it the Zenyatta Stakes or publicly execute the person who green-lighted the name change. Preferably in the winners circle.

.....the classic chicken or the egg.

The Indomitable DrugS 09-02-2010 11:10 AM

Where will Rinterval run next? I know she's lost 21 out of her last 22 races ... but she's due!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-A1ps_m7Jk

...could jump (he seems to like to jump) up and down on this one (?).

You know, just for the sake of entertainment.

Listen up.

None of us are bashing Zenyatta.

We are bashing her connections, and tards such as yourself who can't tell the difference.

alysheba4 09-02-2010 11:55 AM

tards....o.k.

slotdirt 09-02-2010 12:31 PM

More than three ".'s" in your ellipses would seem to prove Indian Charlie's conclusion.

It pains me that someone with such feeble powers of reasoning would invoke such a great and beloved horse for their username.

"Great"? He lost! He is not great. :zz:

slotdirt 09-02-2010 12:41 PM

The list of horses who were great is very, very small in that case. Kincsem, Personal Ensign, Colin, and Zenyatta. Oh, and Peppers Pride. The end.

He's from a time when connections weren't totally lame and it was an acceptable risk, losing.

Different times, different standards.

Now, only Peppers Pride, Zenyatta, that recently retired Lion Heart 2yo and Uncle Mo can be considered truly great.

Alysheba shipped around a lot, but we should keep in mind that the Rockies weren't as high back then.

As am I. Risk it a little too often. Ah the great Peppers Pride.
