Hamden: "3 best horses in the world"

...he was quoted as saying talking about Discreet Cat, Henny Hughes, and Bernardini.....I don't know about Henny Hughes but I wouldn't argue about the other two....

Thats quite a statement. Do you think he was just talking about the dirt? I am anxious to see what David Junior does over here.

No... think he was talking out-right talent.....Obviosuly, it is hard to compare dirt and turf horses...you can only go by the percieved talent dynamic because they'll never face comparble competition in comparable scenarios....

Bold Brooklynite 08-27-2006 12:03 PM

Yeah ... like my own opinion is really going to be influenced by Hamdan.

Sheeeeesh !!!

Pedigree Ann 08-27-2006 12:40 PM

Hurricane Run, Deep Impact, and...., maybe Gorella. Most of the world doesn't run on dirt, so how can dirt horses be the best in the world?

Cunningham Racing 08-27-2006 12:48 PM

I agree a little with hurricane run, but comon....I think it is clear that bernardini and maybe Discreet Cat are just different kinds of animals...I mean NOBODY has even challenged these horses yet in their last 9 races!!!

..these two are pretty freakin talented...you can't compare turf and irt horses for obvious reasons, but yiou can compare talent i believe - and Bernardini and Discreet cat are more talented than anything else in training in my opinion....not even sure f it is even a question in my mind...

Most of the world plays soccer.- Our best athletes don't play soccer.

I don't think it is fair to compare sprinters , turfers etc.. it's all completely different. I like it when people get all excited about a 1st timer AP Indy sired horse running MSW at 6f. ( or some otehr regally bred route horse ) More money for the guy who finds the best bred 1st timer for 6f not 1 1/8+

I say we decide who the best horses are by money.
Top money winners are the best.

For me, I really don't care who the best horse is. People were proclaiming that Bernardini is better than Secretariat yesterday. ???

ok, and that means what exactly?

kentuckyrosesinmay 08-27-2006 01:01 PM

I like Bernardini, Discreet Cat, Hurricane Run, and Deep Impact.

hockey2315 08-27-2006 04:11 PM

When the Sheikh said that after the race you could hear Randy Moss on ESPN- who must not have known that his mic was on saying, "Three best horses in the world" in a questioning sort of way like he disagreed. I agree with him. Bernardini's clearly up there but needs to beat the rest of the best horses to totally prove it, Henny Hughes just plain isn't, and no matter how impressive Discreet Cat was on Friday, it was still an allowance optional claiming race- no matter how much he beat the field by and how fast his time was. I'm not saying that he's definitely not a top horse, but let's see him in a Grade 1.

Gander 08-27-2006 04:26 PM

Butterface, Arromanches and Chilly Rooster.

Gander 08-27-2006 04:28 PM

Its not Bernardini's fault he has to run against scrubs. Hes the real deal, reminds me so much of Ghostzapper and its a joy to see this horse run more than a couple times a year and we get to watch him in his 3 year old season, unlike Ghostzapper who really only became great at 4.

Henny Hughes, the jury is still very much out on. Very good horse, but not great yet!

Gander 08-27-2006 04:31 PM

Ya me too. Horse racing dearly needs horses like that again. I feel sorry for anyone who did not witness this horse's greatness.

Lionel Hamdan.

I like Hurricane Run, Discreet Cat, and Bernardini.

Cajungator26 08-28-2006 02:49 PM

I'll take Deep Impact, Discreet Cat and Invasor.

Wow...no Bernardini...unreal...he is going to drill a hole through Invasor in the Jockey Club Gold Cup...

Danzig2 08-28-2006 03:38 PM

no love for ouija board?? you guys see the weight she's carrying, beating the boys...and how many starts this year?? heading back for her third bc race.

maybe not the best in the world....so hard to say who IS....i mean, narrow it down to three??

invasor? hasn't lost since dubai...
lava man, hasn't lost all year.
deep impact. one loss ever.
same with bernardini--but i'm not even sure he's the best three year old, let alone one of the three best overall.
henny hughes???? surely not...
and discreet looked good in his comeback, but that and a win in march gets you top three? in the world??

Guess we shall see. If he does, I will respect him. But right now? Nah... I'll leave that for you dramatic "he's the best horse ever since the Bid and Secretariat" folks.

Yet you respect DC off of one allowance race? And if you are going by the UAE Derby, then why do you still have Invasor on your list?

I respect DC, yes and in my opinion, he has beaten higher quality horses than Bernardini has (including Invasor.) I have liked him since the beginning of the year. Nowhere did I proclaim him the next Secretariat like you have been doing with Bernardini.

AHHHHHH! Bold Fraud again bashes someone he/she disagrees with.
Such a troll! SUCH A F*CKIN' TROLL!!!!!
Notice......never puts out a pick. Never posts anything in "selections".
No contests either.
Bold Fraud is the greatest authority of anything he can cut and paste from the townhall site. Otherwise, he's the greatest "authority" on everything!
Ask him about breeding, ask him about capping....he's again proven that he's only here to find the attention that his bitter, pathetic life demands.
It amazes me that people still respond to his posts. That only feeds his "attention seeking behavior".

Bold Fraud, I know you have me on ignore. You had to do that because you don't want to face the truth that I say. Maybe someone will hit the quote button and you get a chance to read this. Until then, just keep picking up those bottles and cans for the deposits, go to the library to use the computer you can't afford, raid the restrooms for paper towels so that you can go to the "wind shield" jobs, and go back to your refigerator box under the bridge. Life might get better for you if you stop showing what a pathetic attention seeker you have become.
If I was you, I'd run to the Salvation Army to get a blanket before the good ones are dished out...winter's coming Bold Fraud. You have other things to consider besides bashing people for expertise in areas you lack, like trying to stay warm in your refrigerator box. I can't help that you're pathetic.
Time for you to admit it.

Cunningham Racing 08-28-2006 05:01 PM

I don't think he's the best since Secretariat, but I think he's the best since Bid....I really do....he has only scratched the surface as far as what he is capable of, and the reason I think he is better than Discreet Cat is because he has less weaknesses than DC has...I love DC too, but he has some AWFUL action in front and is very unsound - thus he can and probably will go bad soon....Bernardini is perfect in so many ways...looks, ability, pedigree, and his stride is as good as they come on a racehorse...effortless poetry....that is why I think he is just a genuinenly better horse than DC - but I believe those two are the best horses in the world...I really do.......I would rate Hurricane Run third...

No Secreatriat comparisons here...I love Bernardini but I am also very realistic....I also believe right now that Ruffian and Seattle Slew were better horses - both from the 70s....but Bernardini could change my mind if he continues to be spectacular and continues to improve - which he will continue to improve...there is no doubt about that.....

Bernardin's BSF's indicate that he is improving gradually with every start. Withers 104 Preakness 113 Jim Dandy 114 Travers 116. I believe that there are some glitches and biases in the BSF system with certain horses and certain tracks, but after watching Bernardini run in his last for races, I can see a direct correlation between his improvement and his BSF's. In other words, I think that these BSF's are about right.

Does anyone have Bernie's last four T-Graph numbers? I don't have access to them, and would really like to know what they are.

Off topic, but when did you move down here to Florida? I just noticed that it said you were in Ocala. Are you working on one of the farms? I'm going to the October sale. You going to be there?

It won't be that bad, right?...It looks small and non-threatening on TV...I hope that assessment is true....Thanks for the kind words...

This one won't be so bad, but it will bring a lot of rain and gusty winds. Flooding is always a problem. Since you're in Marion county, you'll probably be fine. I think it will impact the eastern coastal counties more. I think I heard we're supposed to get about 8 inches or rain. We went through so many of these things the past two years, it's almost normal to have them. LOL
