Under jockey Shaun Bridgmohan, Rachel Alexandra entered the main track at the quarter pole and was accompanied to the wire by assistant trainer Scott Blasi aboard the stable pony. Blasi turned Rachel loose just before the finish line and she jumped right into the game, pulling at Bridgmohan who was trying to restrain her.

Bridgmohan had a strong hold of the reins as Rachel Alexandra broke off and went her first eighth in 12.80 seconds. She continued on through a quarter in 24.88, three furlongs in 36.68, four furlongs in 49.07 and with Bridgmohan rousing her just a little in the stretch, Rachel Alexandra got her final quarter in 24.13 seconds over a track where most horses weren't finishing well.

After she crossed the finish line, Rachel Alexandra was far from done. She galloped out seven furlongs in 1:25.63, a mile in 1:39.15 and pulled up 1 1/8 miles in 1:54.09.

Why? Are they going to take away her Horse of the Year trophy if she loses?

Clip-Clop 08-16-2010 10:07 AM

Was the camera guy on rollerskates or something. I am gonna go be sick now. She looks good though, if you can focus on her at all. :D

Smooth Operator 08-16-2010 10:09 AM

Will actually be rooting for RA in this one

Want to see her in that BCC soooooooo bad…

Coach Pants 08-16-2010 10:09 AM

Looks like a great place to watch a race BUT they need to put mirrors between the spots you can actually see the race.

Payson Dave 08-16-2010 10:33 AM

It was a very nice move with a strong double out.... the main track has been a bit dull and tiring the past several mornings...very few horses have been getting final quarters in under 25... the dull stretch makes the strong double out that much nicer.

^^^^Writer's embellishment.

Coach Pants 08-16-2010 11:04 AM

Oh gosh I'm looking forward to the one race that will decide who is the greatest horse evar!

He's been working her all year. He probably doesn't want to change the routine

That's not accurate. He started working her a few months ago, yes, but not all year.

Sorry, I was mistaken then.

Of course it does, those years of qualifying, the group stage and the knockout stage are figments of your imagination. There's just one game every four years.

1 World Cup final every 4 years? We could wait that long between races, and in the mean time they can fix the surface at Santa Anita. Great plan.

I would say 3 of those are highly unlikely to be in the classic, if any races at all.

I'm pointing to the gourmet chocolate buffet in Boston this winter, but who knows if I'll make it.

Rachel does not like to be tied down to one man. She is a free spirit.

slotdirt 08-18-2010 06:22 AM

Soccer has a one game season? Are you serious? I guess every Olympic sport has a one game season as well, right?

People are either completely retarded or utterly inable to make a proper analogy.

I don't think Calvin has ever worked Rachel since Asmussen's been training her.

The Super Bowl of horse racing if you will, richard

Should be quite a spectacle if the Racing Gods can deliver some decent weather in Louisville that weekend

Those preparing on the superior (synthetic) surfaces are clearly poised to give good accounts of themselves, in my estimation...

If Rachel wins for fun next weekend, and then wins another prep...
If Blame wins the JCGC...
If QR crushes the Woodward...
If Lookin At Lucky wins some garbage prep...
He could actually get 3-1 on big Z
