Bernie

wow....hit him once??

GPK 08-26-2006 05:39 PM

as much as I loved Barbaro....I just have to believe Bernardini is the 3YO of the year.

Coach Pants 08-26-2006 05:40 PM

The Classic is shaping up to be one of the greatest races of all time if Invasor, Lava Man, Discreet Cat, Bluegrass Cat and Bernardini run.

I have been a "wait-and-see" type with regards to this horse and I have been critical of some of his fans. Well I saw it today. He is the goods.

Just imagine that 3YO matchup alone....Bernardini vs Discreet Cat

ditto.....and I saw a great horse in Discreet Cat yesterday too.

seconditis 08-26-2006 05:43 PM

How do you let that horse get the lead and run those slow fractions?!!!!!!!!!

The figures will be low for the race, but this guys is a monster. 3 yr old of the year, but maybe not HOY yet.

2Hot4TV 08-26-2006 05:44 PM

I"m impressed, But will Betsy and Joel be happy with 201 and change? Bluegrass Cat was clearly upset before going to the gate and Bernardini was as cool as could be.

irishtrekker 08-26-2006 05:44 PM

Can't wait to see the replay! How'd BGC look? Good, but in a lower class?

Good for Bernardini. Here's hoping he stays healthy! :)

When you saw 48 for the half you knew it was over.

anybody have the exact order of finish thanks.

Need to know who finished higher.

High Cotton or Min Bid

seconditis 08-26-2006 05:47 PM

High Cotton was the Cat's only chance for this race. He needed to get the lead and either burn Bernie up or help block him on the rail. Nice race by the Cat, he gave it all he could, but no way he was gaining into those fractions.

Coach Pants 08-26-2006 05:47 PM

He could've been out in 46 and change and they still wouldn't have caught him.

And with regards to Bluegrass Cat...this horse wasn't rested for the race and it showed. Don't give up on him yet.

Bluegrass Cat looked good in the paddock but was wet by the time he approched the starting gate and was a bit unrulely. My guess is the he was intimidated by Bernardini.

Happy? I'm ecstatic. Question is, are the speed freaks? 2:01 and change is a good time and he ran pretty easily down the lane, too. If others aren't impresssed, that's not going to bother me anymore. I'm thrilled, period. By the way, Pletcher doesn't mind when BC gets washy, since he's been quoted as saying that that's when he runs his best. Bernardini dumped JC in the post-parade, so that worried me; fortunately, he did retain his cool.

Min Bid was last.

Buffymommy 08-26-2006 05:50 PM

Just want to say

DAMN!!!! Damn good horse. Impressed me a great deal today! :)

BC is a very good horse, but he's not nearly as good as Bernardini and that has more to do with the result than the fractions do.

not too hard to believe considering his behavior since they started trying to saddle him....and then his antics in the gate.

It was really nice to see Castellano reach out and and pat him on the neck, before the wire.

Great horse, Great race

ArlJim78 08-26-2006 06:02 PM

Joel?

I'll bet Cunningham is in a full lather about this point.
His dream has come true, the dominance of the sheiks.

kentuckyrosesinmay 08-26-2006 06:05 PM

Bernardini did just what I knew he would do...annihilated them. Just to let you know just how fast Bernardini actually was...Flower Alley won the Travers last year in 2:02.76. Just thought that I would throw that out there even though it is a different year. The track may be playing a little faster this year.

Danzig 08-26-2006 06:07 PM

unless of course you wanted to compare him to general assembly, than it would be playing slower.....

irishtrekker 08-26-2006 06:08 PM

Well, but his other races haven't been that slow, right... So maybe it just indicates his versatility? He can win easy any number of ways. Sorry if I'm completely off about how to interpret the time.

Bernardini doesn't look to have a kink in his armor. They went 48 and change but picked it up to go 112 and 1:36 it was real race times and he did it on his terms. The way he won the Travers reminded me of the Pacific Classic last week, but we all know that Lava Man will be blown away by Bernardini.

His final time was 2:01.60. Saratoga normally plays slower than some of the other tracks. Flower Alley's final time last year in this same race was 2:02.76. Yes, Benardini is very fast. His Preakness time was extremely fast. The scary thing though is that I think that the horse runs his best race if he is stalking and has something to run at.

Danzig 08-26-2006 06:13 PM

normally plays slower? yeah, that's why discreet laid down the fastest seven furlongs of the meet yesterday...

I said "plays slower than some of the other tracks." Read my posts more carefully before you make a smart a s s comment or either quit trying to distort what I say. I also compared Flower Alley's time last year, which was much slower, to Bernardini's time also noting that the track was probably playing faster this year.

Got it -- thanks!

Danzig 08-26-2006 06:25 PM

no, you see i live for smart ass comments. it's the sugar in my coffee.

besides, comparing times from different tracks is a wasted effort.
!

Danzig 08-26-2006 06:26 PM

nevermind.....

and maybe next time you're talking about different tracks, you might want to compare a horse from a different track, not the same track from a previous year....it would help those of us who only look for ways to be sarcastic, rather than wanting to make a valid reply....since you seem interested in setting forth rules of how to post, i thought i would do the same!

Okay, you said nevermind...so I take it you realized just what you were saying.

ArlJim78 08-26-2006 06:38 PM

what's going on around here people, things are breaking down.

this is what i was replying to originally.....had you compared the 10f time today to say, the derby, that would be comparing to other tracks. not this track from last year, that's why i put up about the time yesterday....

and yes, sometimes i slather the smartass on too thick...mea culpa.
