BC 'Special Announcement' at Churchill Friday

NEW YORK (June 10, 2010) – Breeders’ Cup CEO Greg Avioli and Chairman Bill Farish will be joined by Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and Churchill Downs executives Bob Evans and Kevin Flanery on Friday morning to make a special Breeders’ Cup announcement.

Guess the Courier Journal sent a message to a woman I work with and said BC is at Churchill in 2011. Pretty exciting that we get back to back dirt BC's! very good news.

Isn't it sad that we are celebrating the breeders cup being held on dirt?

randallscott35 06-10-2010 03:26 PM

Maybe a new tweener turf sprint race.

randallscott35 06-10-2010 03:28 PM

Shucks. CD gets it again.

You mean you didn't like the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile on Synthetic Angels of Anaheim?

randallscott35 06-10-2010 03:29 PM

I'm sorry but its a sin that CD and SA have had 2 each in the last few years and BEL's last was in 2005.

No I didn't but it is like saying I am happy the Super bowl is going to held on a grass field. I like the bc at CD but it is a sad statement on the game when simply getting away from S.CA is cause for celebration.

It was an insane idea to host it there in the first place, I have no idea what they were thinking doing it two years in a row. My hope is that it'll be a long time until we see another BC on synthetic of any kind.

Having it at the same track two years in a row is a joke..........

Having it 2 years in a row in a state where the game is going the way of dinosaurs is a joke...

Much better than CA.

You have one track in N Ca where a 6 horse field is huge
You have one track in S Ca that is on the clock
You have a track that is owned by a guy that has blown close to a billion dollars with his mismanagement of racetracks
you have Del Mar

purses at hollywood casino at penn national are higher than those at hollywood park.

the best racing organization is track-less

there is virtually zero chance that help is coming from sacramento

Ky has Kee which is doing fine
CD just raised purses 10% and has a dirt track
TP and ellis are crap but have always been pretty crappy

Despite all the political bs at least there are forces that may get the game some help in the near future.

In no way is KY doing great but how could you think they are in worse shape than CA?

randallscott35 06-10-2010 03:59 PM

I guess I fail to see how KY was a better choice than NY considering CD has it this year. It should never be in the same place back to back.

I agree with you. If given the choice between CD and SA with Pro-Ride I'll take what we're getting. I'm sure you feel the same way.

I guess I missed the part about NY? I simply pointed out that something that a few years ago was a given (racing on dirt) is now cause for celebration. I would love to see the BC back in NY.

I'm glad it's being held east of the Rockies so I can go.

Make sure you don't work too quickly before you ship.

Technically...Arapahoe Racetrack is East of the Rockies, perhaps they could get in the running for a BC. It is real dirt.

Yes I have had tons of horses that needed to be raced in CA. We were going to send Kickin n Screamin until I learned that she has a fear of earthquakes.

I knew you agreed with me, they don't feel the need to ship as well.

I agree the back-to-back thing isn't great but they at least gave a reason why no NY. Given the alternatives, CD is far and away the best option. If we had assurance of Jersey racing next year I'd give another shot to Monmouth. However, part of the problem is them waiting so long to get the venue announced.

If they had horses like mine I would agree.

But thinking that they are going to win horse of the year with the same campaign is foolish.

I would love to see the BC abolished. They recently reorganized and let go many long-time staffers. I guess those were the people who were thought to have done enough?
