Who runs in Belmont?

Belmont contenders PP's

How many do we have?

Ice Box
First Dude
Fly Down
Game on Dude
Setsuko
Make Music for Me
Stately Victor
New Madrid
Drosselmeyer
Uptowncharlybrown
Stay Put

Looks like this could be another nice betting race

Stately Victor is supposed to run.

mbahadur 05-15-2010 10:12 PM

I think you will now see Winstar run Drosselmeyer. Also Pletcher may run Devil May Care.

Also, Uptowncharlybrown, New Madrid, and Stay Put are pointing for the Belmont.

Rupert Pupkin 05-15-2010 10:27 PM

Super Saver is obviously not going to run in the Belmont. He's going to get a rest.

I would guess that there is probably a 50% chance that Lookin' at Lucky will run. They may want to save him for the second half of the year.

Alan07 05-15-2010 10:29 PM

Will there be .10 cent supers available?

Ya highly doubt we see Super Saver(Looked dead),LAL(rest),Jax Bend(Distance),Paddy(Turf),Yawanna Twist(Distance)

I was gonna pass on it but damn it looks like a big payoff race. Other than Ice Box who will be bet down to like 5/2,Dublin and Stately Victor there could be nice prices

Coach Pants 05-15-2010 10:38 PM

Who cares? This crop is horribad.

RolloTomasi 05-15-2010 10:46 PM

Did New Madrid win an allowance or something?

Seems like he has potential (possibly in turf races), but if he's being pushed as he was in the Arkansas Derby to go to the Belmont then this might go a long way in telling who's decision it was to run heavily-campaigned Summer Bird in the Japan Cup Dirt.

Oh yea!!! Thanks for the news!!!

I wonder if I'll match the amount I lost on him in the Derby or surpass it. :D  :wf

I dont see how Ice Box loses in this race. Zito first and second

Rudeboyelvis 05-15-2010 11:08 PM

My guess is that Noble's Promise will be entered, take money, and be destroyed.

I would not discount First Dude ala Da Tara to take a stab on the front end.... The Dude is game... Ice Box seems the logical choice at this point...

I don't see him winning it based on his running style.

The race is still 3 weeks out though.

noble's promise is supposed to go over seas, running in a group one race on the turf. they know he's not a classic distance horse.

letswastemoney 05-16-2010 12:01 AM

Ice Box won't get the right set up. He looks good visually for 12 f because of his closing style, but his ability to close could also be flattened out by the distance.

Its not like the prospective field that will be running against will be anything stellar either. The win relies on when Lezcano pushes the button for Ice Box to go. He had 5 weeks rest and should be sitting on a big performance. I just hope they try him on Turf in his subsequent starts. I feel he could be a monster turf horse than a dirt horse in his career.

I think he has a chance but he's far from a lock. In the Derby, there was a really fast pace and everyone was stopping. He won't get nearly as good of a set-up in the Belmont.

On the one hand, you would think that he would have no problem with the extra distance. On the other hand, it's pretty tough to run 1 1/2 miles on your left lead. He didn't switch coming down the lane in either one of his last two races. I would certainly consider that a negative.

I am actually a really big fan of Setsuko in the Belmont, looking forward to seeing how he is training into this race if he goes

Second this one. I don't think he's far from Ice Box and will be a much better price.

I'll care, when the race is drawn and I can actually see a field on paper.

It's a potential wagering opportunity, at a track that I play regularly, horribad horses or not.

Not to mention the undercard will be stacked. Proviso's running in the Just a Game and that generally draws a strong field. Gio Ponti is coming back in the Manhattan and may be quite vulnerable in his first back from Dubai. The Acorn should have a respectable field given how wide open the 3YO filly ranks seem right now and the Woody Stephens will be solid.

If there are no defections from the horses heading that way now, I think it will be a great race to bet. Though as Zito said, "See you in NY" holding a strong pair with Ice Box and Fly Down.

Zito doesn't do turf.

cakes44 05-16-2010 09:10 AM

Lukas didn't quite get what he wanted out of Northern Giant in the Preakness. Better give him another shot in the Belmont.

Dublin is an automatic as well.

No Lucky or Super Saver in Belmont. . .

By the way - I'm LOVING all this Zito hype. Both of his horses can win, but First Dude will have a huge tactical edge on them.

Probably, what he needs is a new trainer, one who can work with his going on two years gate issues, Lukas has become clueless.

tjfla 05-16-2010 10:00 AM

This might be a betting race than the Derby

Ice Box would be fave with everyone else in double digits

Like people said Dublin is already in Lukas gave interviews saying he is going to NY

Danzig 05-16-2010 11:57 AM

wonder if dwl is still thanking baffert for the jock? no, seriously, that horse lost all chance at the break...

and drosselmeyer is going, don't know if anyone already mentioned that. but he won't be joined by desormeaux.

SCUDSBROTHER 05-16-2010 12:32 PM

Scarface could of tried the 7f Woody S. Tank may be a lil too empty to try it now.

Good point but it would be a shame if he just kept him on dirt

I think First Dude runs all day... will be tough.

I don't think a jock change will make a difference. I never did jump on his bandwagon, and have not been impressed by him at all. He might be on my tickets, but it will be at the bottom of them.

He's a nice horse, but the wedding/funeral thing will probably keep me off of him.

Anyone got a guess on Fly Down's odds?

Are we looking at full fields on the undercard stakes?
