We just saw her last race.

She ran a terrific race. Give the winner some credit. She isn't finished.

I agree

48.4 in a mile race.

Good thinking, taking away her best weapon.

Who knows though.

Exactly. Why not let her roll and make them run her down, instead of trying to be cute on the far turn and getting in stretchlong battles while along the inside.

rpncaine 04-30-2010 12:36 PM

I don't think so either, but this is Jess Jackson we're talking about.

Princess Doreen 04-30-2010 12:37 PM

If this isn't Rachel's last race, I'm pretty sure it's Calvin's as her pilot.

Bummer!

letswastemoney 04-30-2010 12:38 PM

Give a different rider a chance.

Merlinsky 04-30-2010 12:38 PM

Missed the race, only caught the winner's circle. They tried to hold her back again? Seriously?

I can't figure out why he didn't let her run on a bit when she moved alongside Be Fair just as they turned onto the backstretch.

Port Conway Lane 04-30-2010 12:41 PM

Jeez, take the winner out of the field and Rachel wins by 8 on a soft pace. Then the critique becomes how easy she had it on the front end.

SCUDSBROTHER 04-30-2010 12:42 PM

Stride is different this year.

the_fat_man 04-30-2010 12:42 PM

What's there to say: 2nd time out she gets beat by a NOTHING.

It was the ride, again, I get it.

The ****in' Horse of the Year needs yet another excuse.

Let's start some more threads now about how Z is ducking her.

DONE

How could they fire him for doing what he's told? It's not like that's how he's always ridden her. It's not his bright idea to go a slow half. You never know, though. Jess could decide he's gotta blame somebody.

I wouldn't call Unrivaled Belle nothing, she's a graded stakes winner already.

Not sure a closer would have gotten to those two.

I really hope the gameplan going into the race wasn't to get in a duel the last quarter mile.

that would be like seeing Mcnabb in a Redskins jersey

It won't matter, Rachel is done, no way they continue, and she also slightly stumbled coming down the lane.

Accidentally merged the other thread into the Derby odds one.

Discuss Rachel's impending retirement.

Indian Charlie 04-30-2010 12:52 PM

Did Rachel Alexandra run yet?

What happened?

Indian Charlie 04-30-2010 12:53 PM

Nevermind.

I was really just asking what happened to the RA thread, but now Ateam explained himself.

very good opinion. I highly doubt she will be retired. highly. what the heck is the point of retiring her off of two close loses when they've been spending the past few months getting her back in shape. She will race another 4 times this year.

that i can agree with

Revidere 04-30-2010 12:55 PM

Assmussen saying she's not as quick as last year. Maybe a hangover from the hard campaign. Happy with the way she battled, and acted.

Gave deserved credit to Unrivaled Belle. Classy interview.

SCUDSBROTHER 04-30-2010 12:56 PM

She had a big bounding stride last year. That's gone.

Antitrust32 04-30-2010 12:58 PM

unless she comes out of the race with an actual injury she will not be retired.

Agree.. also left the door cracked with saying she wasn't as fast as she was last year in regards to maybe coming back in a few days with announcing her retirement. I hope not, but I can see where they might want to throw in the towel now.

Indian Charlie 04-30-2010 12:58 PM

Hasn't anyone ever considered the following?

1. All the talk of RA not being the same as last year, well, it's due more to her facing decent horses this year as opposed to last. I felt that while yeah, she deserved HOY, all this talk of her all time greatness last year was ridiculous. The same can be said for Zenyatta.

2. This goes hand in hand with point 1. Zardana was undefeated prior to today on dirt. Unrivaled Belle has one loss, in which she went to the shelf immediately afterwards.

To me, she's the same horse she was last year, and I think her training schedule and race riding has helped expose her alleged greatness (all time), as has her competition.

What the hell happened today with Zardana anyways?

in all the different ways of looking at it.... I cant see where they might want to throw in the towel.

Please, everyone explain why that would be logical even to Jackson? I dont see it at all.

randallscott35 04-30-2010 01:00 PM

She a HOF if she retires this minute. I could care less that she lost her last 2.

All good points especially about the competition. However she ran three (maybe four) huge races last year that were historic in what she as a 3yo filly did accomplish. Her place in history will be appreciated much more 10 years from now. Same with Zenyatta.

Smooth Operator 04-30-2010 01:21 PM

Can only shake my head in DISGUST over what the misguided voters did to one of the TRULY great fillies (Z) of our lifetimes last year.
