Probably more than the Inconvenient Man has made about global warming.

"The company also has asked the Department of Defense if it can help with better underwater equipment than is available commercially, said BP PLC chief operating officer Doug Suttles."

I'm not a treehugger, but come on. They have to be better than this.

i'm glad they're asking for all the help they can get. you're looking at months to close off that well if they have to drill another one to seal it.

Riot 04-29-2010 09:32 PM

New Orleans can't catch a break. The are reporting oil leaking at five times faster than previously estimated, and oil at the shoreline tonight.

Well, this is the oil industry's responsibility. They should know how to fix it, and have it done in a reasonable amount of time (days not weeks.) All these Conservatives come on here saying that Private Industry is so good at getting stuff done. So, why are they unable to get it done? Why ask the Gov't to do it (when you're so much more professionally run than the Gov't.) Same thing with the damn twisters. If they hate the Gov't so much, then they should be consistent, and rebuild on their own.

Smooth Operator 04-30-2010 09:44 AM

Yeah, it's absolutely stunning to see this company scrambling around like this.

You would think they'd have equipment and emergency plans in place to deal quickly with a nightmare scenario like this.

Yeah, like hurricane states do when disaster hits them.

These clowns (BP) were obviously in WAY over their heads here, Princess.

And I hope they get taken to the CLEANERS big time.

This is an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE that could end up making Katrina look like your baby's playpen…

All the "Drill Baby Drill" idiots should have to be the first responders to clean things up.

The oil companies successfully fight government regulation and oversight, then, when their third and last failsafe backup safety valve doesn't work, ....

Yeah take them to the cleaners. Gee I wonder who will pay for that in the long run? Shirley it won't be the consumers.

LOL. The difference is that I don't give much of a rat's azz about you, whereas you feel compelled to constantly and repeatedly come out of the woodwork and use your insulting words in an attempt to make yourself look important. Or cool. Or scary. Or relentlessly idiotic :D

You're about as narcissistic and delusional as Robin Ophelia Quivers. Were you a former fatty who lost weight, perchance?

You don't care yet keep replying and provoking.

Here's the possible short-term quick fix. Hope it works. Ban on fishing commercial or sport in the gulf today.

Quote:

BP PLC chairman Lamar McKay told ABC's "This Week" that he can't say when the well a mile beneath the sea might be plugged. But he said he believes a 74-ton metal and concrete box - which a company spokesman said was 40 feet tall, 24 feet wide and 14 feet deep - could be placed over the well on the ocean floor in six to eight days.

Company spokesman Bill Salvin said Sunday that the first of three boxes is nearly done. It's being built in Port Fourchon, La., by a company called Wild Well Control.

Another spokesman, Steve Rinehart, said the oil will flow into the chamber and then be sucked through a tube into a tanker ship at the surface.

Look, dope, this company was woefully unprepared to deal with a disaster like this.

Hell, these amateurs apparently had to start using local fisherman when they finally realized that things were spinning out of control.

There is no room for error in that business … as even your dumb ass can clearly see now…

you both are correct. You are correct in the fact that these type of companies really need to be better prepared. Their "fail safe" measures werent exactly fail safe. It sucks that this happened. But coach is correct cause its us, the consumers, who will be screwed in the end because of this whole mess.

Princess Doreen 05-03-2010 02:35 PM

Update - BP says they'll clean up the mess, but they're not at fault.

Barack Obama and Senator Biden, you've said no to everything in trying to find a domestic solution to the energy crisis that we're in. You even called drilling -- safe, environmentally-friendly drilling offshore as raping the outer continental shelf.

There -- with new technology, with tiny footprints even on land, it is safe to drill and we need to do more of that.

he's right, oil is natural. the fact it's gushing into the ocean is not; the drilling is not-which is why it's now gushing into the ocean.

i can't believe this guy still has a gig.

Smooth Operator 05-06-2010 02:58 PM

Well, turned out to be a pretty interesting thread, SCUDS

Thought it was about Antitrust32, at first. :D

Riot 05-13-2010 09:27 PM

New estimates in the news today saying amount of oil coming out of pipe daily may be as high as the equivalent of the Exxon Valdez every four days ... suspicions that a huge plume of oil is undetected deep under the surface ... this is getting worse every day.

Honu 05-13-2010 09:35 PM

Go get your hair cut and ask the people to send it to the gulf hair clippings trap the oil just like your hair does after not washing it for a few days.
