DERBY 136: Jocks nearly finalized; Bejarano gets Line of David..

With Ramon Dominguez signing on to ride RULE, most Derby mounts are assigned...

NOBLE'S PROMISE and INTERACTIF, both uncertain to start in the Derby, have no riders associated with them, and Sadler has yet to officially name Jon Court for LINE OF DAVID.

Finally, Edgar Prado has 'lost' the mount on Rick Dutrow trainee HOMEBOY KRIS, as fallout from the problematic Comely ride on She'll Be Doggone that upset Anthony Dutrow. Dutrow has lined up Joel Rosario.

Here are the rest of the prospective Derby runners and their riders:

1 Lookin At Lucky - Garrett Gomez
2 Noble's Promise - Willie Martinez
3 Rule - Ramon Dominguez
4 Sidney's Candy - Joe Talamo
5 Eskendereya - John Velazquez
6 Line of David - Jon Court
7 Mission Impazible - Rajiv Maragh
8 Ice Box - Jose Lezcano
9 Stately Victor - Alan Garcia
10 Endorsement - Robby Albarado

11 Conveyance - Martin Garcia
12 American Lion - David Flores
13 Dublin - Terry Thompson
14 Super Saver - Calvin Borel
15 Discreetly Mine - Javier Castellano
16 Dean’s Kitten - Cornelio Velasquez
17 Interactif - Rafael Bejarano
18 Awesome Act - Julian Leparoux
19 Paddy O'Prado - Kent Desormeaux
20 Homeboykris - Joel Rosario
---------------------------------------------------------
21 Jackson Bend - Mike Smith
22 Backtalk - Miguel Mena

I'm sure Prado is crying in his Cheerios over losing the mount on Homeboykris.

How much is last place? :)

slotdirt 04-19-2010 02:15 PM

If Mine that Bird was 50-1, what would Homeboykris be on the tote board? I'd have to imagine even higher. He would probably be the most improbable Derby winner ever. I sincerely hope Dutrow et. al. reconsider.

XIIPointStables 04-19-2010 02:17 PM

Guesses on who gets the mount?

I vote for Backtalk when he greases in.

blackthroatedwind 04-19-2010 02:22 PM

I don't know, Steve, but you would think if they were REALLY pissed at Edgar they would make him ride Homeboykris.

slotdirt 04-19-2010 02:22 PM

Do they let bugs ride in the Derby?

I think HBK will finish in the Top 10 Andy. Better than half the field.

I'm sure you have a terrific chance of getting someone to book your action on that.

HBK? Are we anticipating some sweet chin music?

Nakatani?

Revidere 04-19-2010 02:25 PM

Could create a conflict for Dominguez if Eightyfiveinafifty goes in the Derby.

Not looking for that, just saying with his style he will pass some horrendously dead horses in the stretch. And no I don't see him hitting the board....but somebody has to be 8th.

the_fat_man 04-19-2010 02:26 PM

Maybe they can get Rudy out the lab and he can ride the plug.

JerseyJ 04-19-2010 02:28 PM

I'd like to see that tool and former NY apprentice Berrios Cruz ride him and if he beats home half the field he can stand up and give the big whip/fist pump he gives when he wins a 10K starter allowance on the inner in December or January.

It's too bad Nicky's Boy is AWOL. She could fill out your exacta.

Nothing like a speed type with physical issues to split the field in this year's Derby.

hoovesupsideyourhead 04-19-2010 04:27 PM

i wouldent want prado on kns right now hes weak..and wont make winning moves anymore..at least as of late gulfstream/aq.

Why, that horse has absolutely no shot. Your boy is being forced to run so the owners can get good seats for the Derby, that they still have to pay for.

Maybe Churchill Downs could have a Super High Five bet on the last five finishers. That could an interesting bet.

Backtalk has done a little bit more than HomeBoy.

Homeboykris won the Grade 1 Champagne.

Fill me in on Backtalk's Grade 1 wins.

ninetoone 04-19-2010 05:38 PM

If workouts were given grade 1 status, Backtalk got one...

AeWingnut 04-19-2010 05:54 PM

There are 3 or 4 horses going into the Derby Trial hoping to get enough money to get into the Derby

I thought Tyler Baze should have got the mount.

Coach Pants 04-19-2010 07:39 PM

I hope Jon Court doesn't get bullied out of the mount.

Based on his golddigging wife in Jockeys she'll make sure he stays on. She seemed more concerned with her new dress and purse than much else.

Alan07 04-19-2010 07:44 PM

Prado is riding at Belmont on Derby Day.

Hey, now, we didn't see the purse. Some are practically works of art. I'm sure she's gunning for a nice hat this time 'round, but what women wear to the Derby is, to quote Joe Biden, "a big f***ing deal," so she'd be no different from thousands of other women on that day.

I really hope he gets it. I know it's eat or be eaten on getting Derby mounts, but if somebody knocks Jon off of Line of David when they've gotten to ride the KD before, I'd be disappointed. Nevermind how frustrated Jon Court would be.

I really hope Jon Court keeps the mount but this horse with this trainer seems like a prime candidate to be Rafael Bejarano's mount.

I don't think Line of David has much of chance unless ALL the speed tries to rate and he is left out there all alone and they have the track a conveyor belt ala War Emblem, so if Jon does lose the mount he didn't losing much.

DaTruth 04-19-2010 09:12 PM

I wonder if that caller to ATR on Thursday is still excited about Calvin Borel's chances of converting Super Saver to a deep closer.

Ramon is comitted to Rule and would want no part of that head case trying to complete 2 turns for the first time ever in the Derby. GOD help them all if he gets in and draws post #1.

Sometimes they outsmart themselves with the rating (and some break poorly or get bumped en route to the turn) with someone ending up on the lead by default. Whatever happens there, I think being in the post parade and hearing "My Old Kentucky Home" would probably be a highlight in and of itself for Jon.
